The Challenge 

This role is part of our Trait Development Department (including pre-breeding activities). But what will you do as our Trait Development Lead for brassica? 

  • You’re in charge! You will develop the end-to-end disease and pest resistance R&D strategy for the Brassica crops. This includes the development of the strategy, the project and portfolio management, the identification and the characterization of emerging pests and diseases, the discovery of resistance trait, the development and the application of tools for genetic studies and product development along with the capture of intellectual property.
  • But there is more: this position will also lead trait phenotyping capabilities through the Trait Assessment organization to provide assays for assessing plant resistance to biotic stresses for Brassica crops which could be performed in open field, greenhouse or growth rooms. It includes coordination, support and guidance with platforms and operations to produce or manipulate pests and pathogens adhering strictly to relevant regulations.
  • Communication is key! The role is interacting closely across functions and different expertise from quantitative breeding to data analyst via bioinformatic and others required areas of excellence like plant pathologist.

Qualifications

Your Profile 

  • To succeed in this position, you have at least a Masters degree with 5 years of experience in a similar role, or you have a PhD in for example Plant Biology, Plant Science or similar direction related to plant pathogen interaction.
  • You bring a demonstrated experience In breeding and resistance breeding within the commercial industry and you have advanced knowledge about Abiotic stresses, genetics, statistics, plant or crop physiology, and molecular marker development
  • Project and/or Portfolio Management is in your nature.
  • You are an amazing communicator, and you have the ability to convince people naturally. As we are an international and divers company, we ask you to have good communication skills in English and preferable at least a basic command in a second language like Dutch, Spanish or French.
