Role purpose
We are currently seeking a Technical Project Manager (m/w/d) for our multipurpose production
site in Muttenz
who is responsible for planning and executing investment projects (cost, schedule,
quality, functionality) Project Management is defined as "The planning, monitoring and control of all
aspects of a project and the motivation of all those involved in it to achieve the project objectives on
time and to the specified cost, quality, safety and performance”.

The goal of the role is to deliver part of the Syngenta capital investment program by:

  • Providing leadership in engineering capital projects or program of projects; ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with business requirements and within agreed cost and safety parameters
  • Providing expert advice and direction to others by the timely application of technical and/or project management professionalism at key points in the project process
  • Through close liaison with technical resources, principal engineers, and key stakeholders, ensure that capital projects use fit-for-purpose engineering solutions to meet Syngenta HSE and business requirements
  • Position requiring strong field presence capabilities to effectively monitor and supervise project execution on-site
  • Role based in Muttenz, with focus on projects in northern Switzerland, but also occasionally regional support, depending on the regional workload

Accountabilities

  • Act as Project Manager or Project Engineer for one or several capital projects, mainly in Muttenz but also partially in Kaisten. Giving occasionally support to other regional sites can be also included
  • Full project lifecycle ownership: delivering successful project implementation from initiation to start-up for one major or several minor/medium projects simultaneously
  • Shaping the project scope through translating business needs into options, managing trade-offs and selecting best fit option to meet competing objectives. Understanding interdependencies between technology, operations and business
  • Contributing to timely applications for engineering capital proposals
  • Participating actively in project related Process Risk Assessments (PRA) and safety initiatives, and ensuring implementation and adherence to PRA process
  • Tracking costs and progress of all construction activities to ensure project delivery meets challenging time constraints
  • Designing and specifying equipment together with other team members
  • Identifying, specifying and monitoring the implementation of appropriate standards for engineering design, procurement and construction to ensure compliance with company policy, local regulations and fit-for-purpose assets
  • Applying latest project management processes, controls, change & risk management techniques to ensure effective & efficient deliveries
  • Coordinating all technical meetings
  • Acting as internal quality control check, defining Critical Success Factors, KPIs, disseminating them to involved parties throughout the life cycle
  • Planning and monitoring the mechanical and asset commissioning phases
  • Closing and documenting the project, handing over to the site fully operational assets

Qualifications

  • Completed degree in technical field, ideally process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a similar discipline
  • Project Management Professionalism certification or equivalent education
  • Several years of professional experience in project management preferably in the Agrochemical, Pharma or Chemical industry
  • Experience in monitoring construction projects in the role of project engineer and project manager covering complete project life cycle. Preferably in multinational companies
  • Experience of leading external resources
  • Solid understanding of maintenance principles and process risk analysis
  • Knowledge of operational HSE and compliance requirements for Capex investments
  • Precise and structured working method as well as entrepreneurial thinking and action
  • Ability to ensure effective coordination to guarantee safe, reliable, effective & sustainable implementation
  • Self-motivated & self-directed leader with the ability to adapt to changing and competing demands
  • Assertive communication style and the ability to engage at all levels on site
  • Fluent with digital tools
  • Advanced level of English & German language (a third European language would be appreciated)
