In action

You will develop, improve, and apply bioinformatics workflows that directly support our vegetable research and breeding programs. Working with large-scale datasets, you will design analysis pipelines and implement new methods to fast translate data into actionable accurate insights.

In close collaboration with international colleagues in genetics, breeding, and data science, you will ensure that complex data analyses directly contribute to better decision-making in the breeding process. Your work will have a tangible impact, from accelerating research to improving vegetable varieties grown worldwide.

The Challenge

As an Applied Data Scientist - Bioinformatics, you will work at the intersection of science, technology, and agriculture within an international network of researchers, breeders, and data experts. Together with the team, you translate large datasets into insights that directly strengthen the breeding process.

You move effortlessly between detailed analysis and the big picture. You work in three core areas: Tool Development & Improvement (developing and optimizing bioinformatics tools), Collaboration (working with multidisciplinary teams worldwide), and Innovation (introducing new methods and technologies).

The projects are as diverse as the crops we breed, such as:

  • Analyzing complex sequencing and resequencing data.
  • Building and maintaining pangenomes.
  • Developing scalable workflows to accelerate analyses.
  • Applying and testing innovative algorithms and technologies.
