Occupational Health Nurse

Role Purpose

The overall purpose of the role is to assist in the management of the Health Services Clinic at the St. Gabriel site. This includes management of day-to-day operations of the clinical aspects of the St. Gabriel Health Services Clinic. Provides high quality direct patient care through the ST. GABRIEL Health Services Clinic. This position will assist with the promotion and support of the company’s health and wellness programs and will help position the clinic as a value-added benefit for Syngenta. The position supports and provides assistance to the goals and objectives of the regional and local HSES department and the designated (St. Gabriel) Sr. Occupational Health Nurse.

Accountabilities*

• Abides by all HIPAA regulations assuring the confidentiality of the employee’s medical records and all communications regarding the employee.
• Follows written Policy and Procedures, Directives and Standing Orders to provide current and safe medical practices for employees and staff.
• Assists in the review and update Policy and Procedures, Directives and Standing Orders annually.
• Assists in the management/operation daily of the Health Services Clinic.
• Manages the company sponsored periodic physical exam and medical surveillance program by scheduling and notifying employees of their appointments and rechecks.
• Maintains the master surveillance requirements spreadsheet for Syngenta employees needing physicals.
• Provides treatment for work and non-work-related injuries and illnesses to site employees, including first-aid treatment and referral to appropriate medical facility when necessary
• Provides evaluation and emergency treatment for site Contractors and Visitors for injuries and illnesses including first aid and referral or transportation to an appropriate facility.
• Assists the Sr. Occupational Health Nurses for active Workers Compensation and STD cases and obtains information for first report of injury in the Sr. Occ Nurse’s absence
• Assists LHCP and follow directives, verbal and written orders, and standing orders for Health Services Department
• Consults with and assist employees with medical concerns.
• Provides vaccinations according to policy based on the CDC and ACIP.
• Under the direction of the site LHCP, obtains referral appointments for employees who need a specialist consultation and follow up with employee.
• Assists Sr. Occupational Health Nurse in ordering supplies/equipment for the department.
• Follows up with employees regarding health problems, labs, other studies noted during physicals and/or visits to health Clinic.
• Collects drug screens (pre-employment, random and for cause) and coordinates positive finding to confirmation facility. Provides pertinent information to medical director for evaluation of positive drug screen.
• Serves as team member for site Emergency Response Team as major player in medical emergencies.
• Assists with training emergency Medical responder for on-site emergencies related to CPR, bloodborne pathogens and other site chemical and physical injury protocols (Cyanide antidote, dichloro, irritant chemicals, paraquat, etc).
• Maintain proper documentation on employee’s medical record/electronic record.
• Assists in the assurance proper storage of all medical records meeting both HIPAA and OSHA requirements.
• Participates and helps coordinate the annual required training to staff (HIPAA, BBP, etc.). Assists in the training to the staff for annual nursing competencies.
• Assists in the management of the site CPR-First Aid & AED program for medical responders.
• Assists in the routing of the reproductive medical evaluation to IH, the Sr. Occupational Health Nurse, and other designated parties noted in the policy. Coordinates meeting to review the results with employee and the others noted in the policy. Coordinates the submission to Syngenta Medical Director for opinion and follow up.
• Assists in the administration of the annual flu shot program, including vaccine choice, pre-booking, and managing flu shot availability for employees and contractors.
• Participate in site wellness committee meetings as an active team member.
• Spouse Screenings- works with Sr. Occupational Health nurse to offer this program on-site as well as at home.
• Maintain required certifications- State nursing license BLS CPR and serves as an AHA CPR instructor for the site.
• Recommended-American Occupational Health Nurse Certification.
• Serves within the clinic as an active team member of the on-call rotation to cover after-hours medical concerns.
• Responds physically, if needed, to site medical emergencies and follows safety and medical protocols.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher
• Registered Nurse Certification or higher
• Current COHN or COHN-S certification is preferred. Working toward obtaining the certification will be preferred as well.
