To support that challenge, we are currently seeking a Production Manager, Seed Tolling Corn NA in Ames, IA to manage operations of domestic and winter contract corn seed production. 

You will help shape the future of agriculture by:

  • Taking the responsibility for operational management of domestic and winter contract seed producers from planning through finished good stages of production and delivery to customers 
  • Be the direct contact with outsource business partners
  • Strive to achieve high quality and reliable supply of production
  • Manage budgets and costs. May assist with managing other areas of production
  • Manage employees in SAP transactional activity related to outsourcing operations
  • Strive to maintain SAP accuracy and business process compliance
  • Work in a safe manner by following policies and procedure set forth by Syngenta   
  • Provide input for process improvement
  • NA corn outsource end-to-end seeds production. Includes domestic and winter contract seed producers 
     

Qualifications

Accountabilities: 

  • Manage contract production operations from the handoff from Supply Planning all the way thru conditioning and delivering to customers through outsource business partners, including yield and cost estimation processes
  • Assist with development and communication of operating budget, budget assumptions, and deviations from budget
  • Develop and implement outsourcing contracts, in conjunction with the direct purchasing team, to meet Syngenta internal and customer objectives
  • Network with Syngenta regulatory, regional production people, and government agencies to obtain the necessary permits required for seed production
  • Develop operational processes, and quality business process documentation designed to improve safety, quality, reliability, and manage costs related to domestic and winter contract production
  • Manage any rework of finished goods through outsource business partners
  • Assist distribution team with managing shipment from outsource business partners 
  • With the quality team and supply team, oversee quality and usage decisions of outsource production
  • Oversee/govern SAP transactional activity for areas of accountability, with metrics established for accuracy and timeliness
  • Be conformant with all company policies and standards, including DOA and compliance guidelines 
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop people to ensure a talented pool of employees is available for succession purposes, including creation of opportunities for people within the outsource team


Requirements

  • BS degree in Agriculture or related field
  • Agricultural and seed production or supply chain experience  
  • Minimum 3 years Seed Industry experience in production
  • SAP/ERP business software skills
  • Lean Six Sigma and cross functional project management
  • Decisive to make timely decisions taking into consideration impact in other areas, partners, and customers 
  • Ability to quickly gain trust of multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, able to maintain and extend structured networks
  • Ability to collaborate across boundaries working with a diverse work force
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time, by car and/or plane, including to South America
  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions while working outside 
  • 60% of work performed in standard office; 40% of work performed at production locations or meetings
