About Us 
Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. We are currently seeking an HSES (Health, Safety, Environment and Security Accountabilities) and Quality Coordinator at our Gilroy, California site. 
You will help meet the world’s most pressing needs by: 

  • Managing all aspects of the Health, Safety (personal and process), Security & Environmental programs including overall program development, training requirements, environmental permitting, waste disposal, risk management, fire protection, and emergency response and participate in the capital project review for the site.  
  • Providing support to our clean plant production department by inspecting plant material for quality prior to packing and shipping.  


Accountabilities  

  • Manage compliance with any California required permitting
  • Perform routine walkthroughs to document observations and ensue safety programs are being implemented
  • Compile and submit any required reports including SARA inventory, Syngenta SERAM reporting specific CA requirements ( IIPP, Hazardous Materials Business Plan, Farm Water Quality Management Plan
  • Oversee the site Waste Minimization plan and waste disposal practices per regional and State requirements
  • Maintain functionality and compliance of the site security system including heat and smoke detectors, fire suppression systems as well as fire extinguishers and fire doors as compliant with the Gilroy facility. 
  • Participate on the site safety teams and as a member of the site management teams
  • Local, regional, global, State and Federal HSES related reporting
  • Manage and ensure all other required HSES related training for the site including respiratory, Greenhouse Safety, confined space, lockout/tagout, forklift operations as examples
  • Support the supply chain in production of clean plant material by inspecting for pests or diseases and documenting findings.  
  • Coordinate with Elite Starter Material manger, Phytopathologist, Growers to inspect plant material before packaging.  
  • Learn how to identify insect pests or plant pathogens of concern.


Critical success factors & Key challenges:

  • Establish HSES programs as critical business components within the many functional groups on the Gilroy site.
  • Work effectively across multiple teams; balancing goals and objectives of the varied customers to meet critical overall HSES program goals

Qualifications

Requirements 

  • 2-3 years operational experience in industrial production and/or laboratories
  • Functional knowledge of HSES management systems, data/data needs, and reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of Federal and State HSES related regulations as well as internal Syngenta HSE and Security policies and standards
  • Fundamentals of HSES program development and management including working through others to achieve critical goals
  • Knowledge and experience with Cal OSHA and EPA
  • Individual must be authorized to work in the United States for Syngenta without work authorization sponsorship now or in the future
