Enabling Technologies Lead

Role Purpose :

The purpose of the Enabling Technologies Lead is to lead and coordinate various speed breeding, laboratory, green house & field activities that support the Rice Breeding program in improving performance of Syngenta rice germplasm for developing competitive and profitable products suitable for target markets

Accountabilities :

• Working with the rice breeding teams in the country by managing the Rice Speed breeding, DH, Grain Quality & activities relative to specific breeding programs
• Plan, coordinate and ensure execution of the operational tasks within its work group: staff and resources for Rice DH, Grain Quality & RGA (Rapid Generation Advancement)
• Sustain and develop appropriate structures for implementation and delivery of data to support decision-making and communication
• Coordinate a team of associate scientists and research assistants on routine activities for screening of Syngenta germplasm to various Grain quality traits, develop DH lines by implementing production plan & manage population advancement by effective execution of  Speed breeding trials
• Prepare reports of completed projects to support leadership decision making and for use in further applied or theoretical research activities
• Actively participates in the product advanced meeting (HPC) with the responsibility to share the data on time to the stakeholders with recommendations
• Plan, execute and conclude specific special breeding projects
• Working with Discovery breeding/Native Traits/Genetic Project/Enabling technologies teams
• Ensure support for technology integration in germplasm improvement projects including discovery and implementation projects for the development of new DH lines, screening of Rice hybrids & Parents for Grain quality traits & also population advancement through speed breeding
• Work effectively with other teams in Syngenta regarding development and delivery of methods, tools, and analyses, providing accurate and reliable data
• Drives innovation in screening operations, evaluates, reports, and implements new ideas or technical solutions in consultancy with line managers and scientific experts
• Working with other R&D functions, Coordinate with Breeding Operations, Trialing, HSE, Quality & admin departments.
• Timely communication with different stakeholders. Ensure the timelines in terms of delivery / results are properly met with appropriate intervention and follow-up
• Breeding Operations – Ensure DH & Grain quality trials are managed well by timely communicating & coordinating with the team
• Trialing – Coordinating & following up with trialists across the country for getting the right samples for testing grain quality & at the right time.
• HSE, Quality, Admin & other teams– constant interaction with HSE teams to ensure strict adherence to Syngenta safety policy. Act as a catalyst in bringing quality culture across Rice SDU by arranging quality circles & ensure engagement of teams in quality management practices. Plan for resources keeping in view the demands & make sure all consumables & manpower are in place.
• Responsible to write and define standards and SOPs for DH, Grain Quality & RGA
• Ensure effective management of budgets and team resources aligned with the business strategy
• Coordinate the daily facilities operations such as Laboratory and Greenhouse, supervising all maintenance of the facility and maintaining records

Qualification               :  M. Sc. (Agriculture) Or Ph. D. in Breeding/Gentics/biotechnology

Experience                 :  5 year or more experience in Speed Breeding, Tissue culture, DH, Biochemical analysis, Analytical chemistry & plant breeding would be preferred.

Critical Knowledge      :  Knowledge of anther culture, Speed Breeding & Laboratory

Location                      :  Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Language                    :  Good speaking and communication skills in English

• Create and monitor KPIs for Enabling technologies to track compliance and process effectiveness and define the reporting to the leadership and stakeholder groups
