Role purpose

 

The data scientist in the technical excellence team is in a pivotal position within the Crop Protection Product Development and is responsible for enhancing the capability of expanding data utilization from various data sources, ensuring data sufficiency and quality to generate technical insights from Syngenta product development projects. The role is designed to

  • Deliver technical excellence in prescriptive protocols designed with the proper experimental structure, correct target pressure, right field execution, and right SOPs in the end-to-end product development.
  • Apply data science to exploit internal and external data sources to generate insights for the CP pipeline, which benefits both short—and long-term CP business objectives.
  • Execute practical training, audit, and coaching programs to deepen competencies, build capabilities, and expand capacity.
  • Prepare CPD to be data-ready for the future of digital agriculture.

Accountabilities

  • Design and deliver practical training programs to advance the organization's scientific, analytical, and statistical skills, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in data-related competencies.
  • Partner with the product biology technical lead in AMEA, interpreting complex data to extract technical insights and provide robust analytics support that informs product development strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of extensive datasets from both internal and external sources to uncover trends and patterns and generate actionable insights that drive strategic decisions.
  • Engineer streamlined methodologies for automating data preparation, curation, and organization processes to guarantee high-quality data that supports efficient analytics workflows.
  • Craft compelling visual data narratives that elucidate insights and forecasts, empowering stakeholders to make well-informed decisions critical for portfolio development.
  • Build sophisticated data models using digitally captured data and diverse metadata sources, accelerating digital transformation in crop protection development in collaboration with domain experts and digital leads in the region and global functions.
  • Provide scientific guidance and actively contribute to APAC CPD/TMD initiatives. Collaborate with global and regional data science teams to drive innovation and best practices.
  • Remain at the forefront of data science by staying current with emerging technologies, techniques, and methodologies and strategically applying this knowledge to propel the organization forward.
  • Uphold the highest levels of professional integrity by strictly adhering to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, the Syngenta Code of Conduct, and compliances in all activities.

      Qualifications

      Critical knowledge & experience

       

      • MSc or Ph.D. in biostatistics or data science with over three years of work experience or equivalent work experience in related functional areas.
      • Data analytics and statistics: scientific data management, data mining, machine learning, numerical and statistical methods.
      • Data management from field experiments in crop protection product development.
      • Experience developing data visualization platforms via Power BI, Qlik Sense, Tableau, or other RPA tools.

      Critical technical, professional, and personal capabilities

      • Proficient level in JMP/JMP Pro or equivalent statistical tools.
      • Preferably proficient experience but minimum knowledge of Python, R, SQL, or relevant data science tools.
      • Preferably, technical expertise in BITS, ARM, and Data Lake
      • Data quality and integrity management
      • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
      • Agile approaches in product development processes.
      • Risk management skills.
      • Public-private partnership (external collaborations).
      • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
