Role purpose

  • Lead Vegetable Seeds Procurement in the Region working closely with Production, Supply and Finance,
  • Act as Direct Procurement Business Partner for the Regional Production and Vegetables Seeds Global Supply Chain teams,
  • Be a formal part of the Regional Veg Seeds Production Leadership Team,
  • Advance, professionalize and standardize the ways of working across Veg Seeds. Implement the Procurement Operating Models and develop new ways of working collaboratively with Production, 
  • By detailed understanding of the supply markets and analysis of spend, develop and implement Crop Strategies which support the Business Strategy,
  • Continually improve contract design by developing innovative ways to contract with Growers and Third Parties to meet Syngenta’s needs,
  • Increase profitability for both Syngenta and Growers, while increasing supply reliability,
  • Actively engage in negotiations with key Vendors and promote negotiation skills with Production,
  • Ensure compliance to internal control standards in all activities,
  • Implement Supplier Relationship Management,
  • Ensure Direct Procurement activities are in support of Syngenta’s Business and P&S Strategies and enable Syngenta competitiveness and growth,
  • Hold the accountability for the delivery of the budgeted savings and for putting savings pipeline in place.
  • Work towards people / team development and Capability Building to ensure tools and processes are embedded, deployed and stabilized

Accountabilities

  • Develop Contracting Strategies for each Crop and Territory in the Region. Ensure delivery of the key opportunities identified in the Veg P&S Strategy – namely, the reduction in COGS through increase in efficiencies, increase in quality, reduction in write-offs and consistent pricing methodologies,
  • Effectively balance the cost scenario with commodity and macroeconomic changes like; economy policy, currency to support the Global / Regional SPP process and work with appropriate teams to minimizing any adverse impact. Intensely assess and build a robust pipeline of projects in Production, including but not limited to new vendor development and or adoption of new technologies. Stimulate the team to leverage our purchasing power and make sure we reach our targeted growers and channel partners to consistently deliver a great experience for our customers, ensuring growth for all,
  • Implement Segmentation throughout the Region for Growers and Subcontractors,
  • Identify gaps between current ways of working and the Seed Sourcing Cycle (SSC). Implement a correction plan to address the gaps. Ensure alignment of the SSC with stakeholders, 
  • Ensure Procurement is being executed to enable Syngenta to be competitive and to out-perform the competition,
  • Negotiate commercial agreements including legal contracts as appropriate,
  • Utilize, promote and train on the use of available Procurement and Sourcing tools,
  • Demonstrate highest ethical standards and ensure company procedures are adopted and followed,
  • Ensure measurement and delivery of  KPI’s aligned with business objectives,
  • Maintain current market knowledge and industry trends.

Critical success factors & key challenges

  • Ensure all supply and service contracts are negotiate and finalize to aim the optimum combination of quality, best price, reliability, location and grower capability,
  • Collaborate with Production and Seeds Procurement colleagues on other regions,
  • Knowledge of the marketplace for Grower contracts,
  • Implement the Seed Sourcing Cycle,
  • Propose innovative ways to structure Grower/Subcontractor contracts,
  • Ability to work in a global matrix and handle multiple priorities,
  • Create saving pipeline and delivery of savings as budgeted,
  • Balancing cost scenarios with inherent challenges among diverse genetics in seed production portfolio, challenging micro and macroeconomics along with industry competition,
  • Set and maintain appropriate ways of working and standards with the cross functional teams, 
     

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical knowledge

  • Bachelors Degree in either Technical or Business
  • MBA or CPM desired but not required
  • Understanding of Seeds Supply Chain and knowledge of Seeds Supply Markets
  • Knowledge of competition scenario and macro economics 
  • Knowledge of budgeting and standard cost

Critical experience

  • Experience in Seeds Production   
  • Experience in Procurement
  • Experience in Supply Chain 

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Ability to understand financial implications of sourcing strategies and contract designs 
  • Persuasive communication skills with ability to easily engage stakeholders across levels and cultures, exceptional influencing skills and culturally astute
  • Entrepreneurial and commercial orientation with greater focus on customer satisfaction
  • Understanding of field production and processing operations
  • Ability to collaborate
  • Project management and change management
  • Ability to establish relationships with business team members, regional procurement, and suppliers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended period of time
  • Must be able to climb stairs and cat walks at plant locations
  • Must be able to travel by car or plane
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, fax, copier and computer

OTHER 

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel requirements: approximately 35%
  • Two years current position preferred.  Candidates who have been in their current position a minimum of one year will be considered if they have the approval of their current business unit leader and hiring business unit leader.
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the assigned region (keep only in countries where it is mandatory by law)
