Job description

As a Validation Scientist at Syngenta, you will work within a multidisciplinary global team to discover, define, and design experiences that empower researchers to work more effectively and efficiently by utilizing our data-driven solutions. The Biostatistics Team is seeking an experienced Validation Scientist to apply the latest data science techniques in new and effective ways to make informed agricultural decisions around the globe.

You will work in close collaboration with phenomic teams, plant breeders, data engineers, and software developers to accelerate science-driven innovations at Syngenta. This role combines expertise in data science, agriculture, remote sensing, and statistical modeling to drive innovation in digital phenotyping. You will act as a bridge between domain and technical teams to lead the validation and implementation of digital phenotyping solutions

Duties:

  • Lead the stage-gate process for trait development and validation, applying quantitative genetics principles and developing innovative analytical solutions for complex agricultural challenges.
  • Design, develop, and optimize machine learning models and scalable data science workflows for trait prediction, integrating phenomic traits, genomic data, and environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (plant breeders, domain scientists, data engineers, and software developers) to translate business needs into technical requirements and provide data-driven solutions.
  • Communicate findings to stakeholders, driving the adoption of data-driven decision-making across the organization and influencing strategic direction.
  • Mentor junior data scientists, promote best practices, and act as a bridge between domain and technical teams to lead the validation and implementation of digital phenotyping solutions.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Plant Breeding, Remote Sensing Science, Computational Agronomy, or a related field, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science and machine learning roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in machine learning, deep learning, statistical methodology, computer vision, and geospatial & remote sensing analysis, with a strong foundation in Python/R/C++ programming and experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries.
  • Expertise in cloud-based development environments, including proficiency in SQL, Git-based CI/CD workflows, cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure), and containerization technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific data analysis, modeling, and visualization, particularly with biological systems, plant breeding, quantitative genetics, and genomics data.
  • Outstanding problem-solving capabilities, superior communication skills, and strong project management abilities, with proven experience in team collaboration and independent work.
