Job description

To support this mission, Syngenta’s Vegetable Seeds Development organization is seeking a Trialing and Product Placement Specialist in Woodland, CA. This role will manage and drive excellence in research trialing for a diverse portfolio of vegetable crops, with a focus on Cucurbit, Large Seed, and Bulb Vegetable crops in the Central Valley of California and collaborating extensively with our team in desert southwest.

Duties:

  • Lead and execute research trials for diverse vegetable crops (focusing on Cucurbit, Large Seed, and Bulb Vegetables) in California's Central Valley, managing both on-station and off-station trials with growers.
  • Design, implement, and analyze trials to evaluate crop performance, collecting high-quality data to support product advancement decisions and variety placement recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Trialing and Product Placement Leads, Germplasm Development Scientists, and Technical Sales teams to develop annual trial plans and organize Product Advancement Tours.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with seed dealers, growers, and processors to understand customer needs, securing strategic trial locations and managing grower contracts.
  • Utilize proprietary databases and systems to plan trials, manage data collection, perform analysis, and create visual presentations of trial results.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of regional markets, crop performance, and customer requirements to provide strategic insights to Germplasm Development, Marketing, and Sales teams.
  • Ensure all trial activities comply with Syngenta's Biosafety, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards, quality systems, and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, or related field (PhD preferred), with deep technical knowledge of vegetable crops and plant breeding principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in plant variety trialing and field trial design, preferably in vegetable crops, with strong understanding of statistical analysis and data interpretation of phenotype and environmental data.
  • Practical knowledge of agronomy and growing techniques.
  • Excellent track record of working with growers and stakeholders in vegetable production, with comprehensive understanding of market demands and crop specifications.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex data into clear recommendations for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English required, Spanish preferred; must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to travel (can be 30-50% during crop seasons).

Additional Information

Salary for this role is $86,400 - $129,600 per year.
