Role purpose

  • Effectively manage an assigned portfolio of products that includes RM’s, Intermediates and AI’s sourced in India for local and globally uses.
  • Develop & maintain supplier relationships with our Indian suppliers in parallel with the appointed supplier lead / KAM & respective buyers.
  • Develop and sustain strong collaboration with other Global Colleagues – AI Procurement, Supply Chain and T&S (Technology & Sourcing) teams.   
  • Understand financials related to costing – Collect / analyze the data, carry out reconciliation if needed to help understand the various cost elements - utilities, volume, RM, packaging materials, etc. for requested AI or intermediates  
  • Support troubleshooting or operational challenges that are highlighted by the Global teams -  Global Supply Chain Managers, Procurement Managers or T&S Managers
  • To monitor and actively mitigate the supply risk from Indian suppliers by proactively ensuring suppliers are one step ahead of regulatory changes and to drive HSE improvements with aligned with our assessments.
  • To gather market information about chemical & agrochemical producers in India according to the needs of internal stakeholders & to support the sourcing of raw materials, intermediates & AI’s from India.
  • Support & facilitate visits to Indian suppliers by global colleagues – from a operational, logistics, cultural & market intelligence perspective.

  • To shape sourcing strategies, negotiate and achieve the best possible outcome for Syngenta for a portfolio of selected global AI’s as assigned.
  • To be an active Procurement representative in Global Supply Chain teams.
  • To support the India sourcing initiatives focusing on key projects or challenges.
  • To take accountability for the sourcing of selected local AI’s and additional global AI’s as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the specialty chemical and agrochem industry in India. Build expertise in the optimum methods of engaging with these manufacturers.
  • Develop and maintain supplier / industry database for fine chemical and active ingredient producers.
  • Support the team to meet the financial targets - Drive knowledge-based negotiations, alternate source development.
  • Minimize supply risk by detecting gaps f awareness, understanding or implementation of changes required by local authorities that could potentially affect the supplier’s ability to produce or their cost position.
  • Actively drive HSE improvements initiatives with suppliers
  • To make Syngenta the customer of choice of selected generic producers, leveraging already existing relationships from Asia sourcing of intermediates and our AI’s.

 


Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably in Chemical) / Masters degree in Science (MSc in Chemistry
  • MBA or PG Diploma in Management from a reputed institute

Work experience

  • Have relevant experience of 5 - 7 years in the Chemical Industry ( Agrochemicals / Speciality Chemicals / AI Sourcing in Pharmaceuticals / Contract Manufacturing)
  • Worked as a Manager in Procurement / Sourcing Manager / External Manufacturing / Technology Transfer projects /  Production Manager (with exposure to procurement)
  • Preferably worked in multinational companies with a strong working relation of managing global suppliers
  • Have worked on global projects & understand the challenges of driving projects with multiple touch points both with internal & external stakeholders

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Sound understanding of sourcing process
  • Ability to manage end to end Project Management
  • Working knowledge of Supply Chain operations mainly around Logistics & procurement
  • Proficient in the working in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)  
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal & written)
  • Analytical thinking
