Senior Scientist - Ag Performance Traits

Job description

A senior trait scientist to design, exacute and manage agronomic traits projects, based in SBC. Provide technical expertise and knowledge to traits of interest for major crops, particularly maize and soy, for China and global units as well.

Accountabilities

  • Coordinate and perform experiments to dissect traits, develop hypotheses, identify and evaluate leads efficacy in greenhouse and field as well
  • Manage both internal and external collaborations
  • Actively interact with scientists within SBC and other global units to ensure critical milestones are met
  • Maintain accurate experimental records according to company policies with outstanding attention to detail
  • Perform all activities in compliance with syngenta HSE guidelines

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in plant genetics, physiology, molecular biology or related field, and 5+ years professional experience in the area of agronomic traits
  • Experience in the area of agronomic traits including lead discovery and evaluation for major crops (maize, soy and rice preferred) with a proven record of success in the form of publications and/or patents
  • Experience in experimental design to understand the traits mentioned above under experimental conditions in the lab, greenhouse and field
  • Experience to cope with a matrixed organization (cross-functional, cross-sites, cross-business) and technical environment
  • Broad knowledge of bioinformatics, genomics and biotechnology preferred
  • Experience of post-doctoral preferred
  • Demonstrated success in leading a complex results-oriented research project requiring scientific creativity, innovative thinking, organization and collaborative skills
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills in interpreting and presenting study results
  • Well organized, good communication and networking skills
  • Proficient in Chinese and English
