The Regulated and Stewardship specialist will be responsible for supporting regulated seed research production and trialling for the NA Region in a way that enables compliant and effective pipeline delivery.

The specialist will support Regulated and Stewarded traits with a link to:

  • Sites where the trials are conducted 
  • Seed moved, planted, harvested, and processed
  • Regulatory
  • Traits
  • Trait Assessment
  • Trialing
  • Operations
  • Scientists

Accountabilities: 

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expertise on Stewardship and Quality Methods Systems for Regulated locations
  • Participate in new processes/protocol/site design to include regulatory, stewardship and quality control regulations/process. 
  • Collect locations for regulated sites for USDA Permits (for herbicide or BT traits)
  • Provide routine metrics to leaders, for instance KPIs or measurements of productivity and quality
  • Lead critical investigations for problems related to regulatory, stewardship or quality (i.e. USDA reportable root causes)
  • Yearly Level 1 and Level 2 assessments/internal audits of quality
  • Training management for regulated and stewarded traits
  • Ensure Waste Streams and Destruction process is followed
  • Quality Management for Regulatory and Stewarded trials
  • Ensure shipping of Regulated Seeds meets compliance requirements
  • Document management system updates for Regulatory and Traits
  • Trait Assessment APHIS/NSVBM point of contact for review of processes 
  • Support of Shipping and Receiving NSVBM - Non-Seed Viable Biological Materials (insects, pathogens, nematodes, soil, plants)
  • Pro-active communication to reinforce/remind end users of the compliance processes and requirements (e.g., electronic communications, Q&A sessions, supplemental education material, field visits)
  • Understanding and support of SQC follow-up to support R&D sites
  • Provide support to Syngenta and third-party field personnel on issues related to field trial regulatory compliance

This position is based in Clinton, IL with the opportunity for some remote work.


Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years of experience in Agriculture Sciences/R&D/Seeds Production.
    • Degree disciplines in Agriculture, Agronomy, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering
    • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement.
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence and collaborate cross-functionally.
    • Knowledge of risk assessment and management practices

    Preferred:

    • Working knowledge of Regulated Field Trials and Quality Management Systems/Methods.
    • Knowledge on how the legal environment, political and public perceptions impact regulations of technology in agriculture

    Additional information
    All applicants must be eligible to work in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada.  Travel up to 10%.
