We have an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager to join Syngenta’s Capital Projects Group (part of Engineering). You can manage capital investment projects across multiple sites in the EAME region.  This role is based at Jealott’s Hill International Research Site in the UK. The project manager will direct the management and engineering of projects, ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with business requirements within agreed cost and safety parameters. You will;

  • Manage and deliver projects linked to the business strategy
  • Plan, monitor and control of all aspects of a project to achieve the project objectives on time and to the specified cost, quality, safety and performance.
  • Provide expert advice to others by the application of technical and/or project management knowledge
  • Engage with Technology and Engineering (T&E), Product Technology Active Ingredient (PTAI), principal engineers, key stakeholders and other technical experts.
  • Ensure that projects use fit-for-purpose engineering solutions and meet Syngenta Health Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements. 
  • Motivate all those involved in the project

Accountabilities

  • Successfully deliver several projects simultaneously
  • Work with project owners to shape project scope. Translate business needs into options, manage trade-offs and select the best option to meet competing objectives.
  • Support the development of business cases
  • Formulate project execution plans/strategies
  • Manage, monitor and report the safety and progress of projects
  • Identify and secure resources to develop and lead through the life of the project.
  • Ensure full integration between the design, construction and commissioning phases
  • Apply project management processes, change control and risk management techniques
  • Manage project planning/scheduling to deliver beneficial operation of assets on time
  • Manage project estimates and costs to create reliable forecasts
  • Direct and control third parties (design company, contractors, supplier, consultants, etc) to ensure successful delivery. Work with the Procurement function to develop, negotiate and manage contracts.
  • Develop and implement a communication plan for stakeholders and escalate items to senior leaders for effective resolution/decisions.
  • Continue professional development to keep up to date with emerging methods and technologies to expand the project management capabilities of the organization.

Dimensions

  • Financial: Total value of projects $5m - $20m per year.
  • People: 1 or 2 direct reports and project teams of up to 75 people (contractor staff)
  • Geographic Scope: Specific countries across Europe

Qualifications

Competencies/Experience/Previous Roles

  • Minimum experience level: 10 years of work experience
  • Project management experience (lead projects in the role of project manager across the project life)
  • Minimum of conversational and written English & French
  • Qualification/certification or equivalent education in project management (e.g. PMI, Prince2, APM, etc.)
  • Technical degree or equivalent - Preferred Engineering-based (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.) or Science-based (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, etc.)
  • Good leadership and people management skills with technical and non-technical staff
  • Excellent organizational, planning, networking and communication skills
  • Self-motivated & self-directed leader with the ability to adapt to changing and competing demands
  • Preferred work experience in multinational companies (multicultural environment and with global stakeholders)
  • Preferred work experience in the Agrochemical, Pharmaceutical or Chemical industry
  • Support diverse and inclusive work environment
