  • Motivates, coaches, and inspires a group of 8-10 Scientists to deliver a high-quality performance, leading new member recruitment and helping them to shape their onboarding, training and development plan. 
  • Acts as a mentor, using their experience, knowledge and skills to give advice, build confidence and improve skills across a group of Scientists at different levels of seniority. 
  • Responsible for helping Scientists shape their career by providing advice and support to help them grow and achieve their career goals, including the removal of roadblocks that might impede progress. 
  • Ensures that Scientists work toward their individual goals as established on their individual development plans (IDPs) in order to contribute to the business’ success, encouraging team members when goals must be reached or managing under performance situations. 
  • Handles interpersonal conflicts as they arise and ensures employees are motivated to move forward once a resolution is found. 
  • Leads their people through difficult times and helps create a positive atmosphere for people’s growth and successes. 
  • Makes sure role responsibilities, expectations and functional & company-wide goals are communicated clearly. 
  • Takes care for the health, safety and wellbeing of their team members.
  • Work in good coordination with Science and Operational Leaders to achieve an efficient working atmosphere

Qualifications

  • A highly motivated and people-focused scientist with PhD Degree and scientific experience in relevant area of science (e.g. Insecticide and / or Fungicide resistance)
  • Extensive practical experience with research involving insects and / or plant pathogens, practical experience and  knowledge of technologies related to phenotyping, automation and molecular biology, experience in the private sector is a plus.
  • Familiar with SOPs, Biosafety regulations and HSE
  • Proven track record of managing peoples or teams, experienced at developing people and at promoting a collaborative spirit
  • Good working practices, reliable: excellent tractability, full compliance with safety rules. Proved accountability in lab work requiring GLP or complex processes
  • A team player, able to technically support other research scientists in the frame of multiple projects and to work in good synergy
  • Fluent in English
