About the role
Are you a proactive problem solver with a passion for driving technical innovation? Do you enjoy solving complex analytical problems and delivering innovative technical solutions? We are looking for a Metabolism Chemist to join our Analytical Method & Metabolism (AMM) team and take on the challenge of elucidating metabolism of active ingredients in the agrochemical sector. Working within a highly collaborative team of metabolism chemists you will apply your background in chemistry, or a related discipline, to solving how molecules break down in soil, water and crops in the laboratory to support registration of sustainable crop protection products. A recent example is the registration of TYMIRIUM® technology which protects crops against soil-borne pests. You will serve as a key scientific contributor providing data and expertise to project teams for our active ingredients. No previous experience in the field of agrochemicals is required as we provide a comprehensive training package.
Key responsibilities include:
- Independently design and carry out innovative experiments to elucidate metabolism and environmental fate processes within a project team
- Lead and/or participate in metabolism project teams
- Independently provide expert technical assistance to external suppliers, where appropriate, to facilitate transfer of technical knowledge
- Work with colleagues in other functions to gain insight from data sets generated in metabolism studies
- Maintain compliance with Syngenta HSE requirements
- Be responsible for personal development and undertake training opportunities
The role has scope for individual flexibility in delivering combinations of these responsibilities.
Qualifications
Minimum of a degree or equivalent work experience in a chemistry- or biology-based discipline.
Required experience and skills:
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team to achieve project goals
- Experience of practical laboratory skills in chemical (synthetic, analytical) or biological (environmental, microbiological) settings
- The desire and aspiration to grow and develop in a laboratory based analytical and problem-solving role
- Experience of metabolism, environmental fate or behaviour of chemicals in a related discipline would be desirable
- Critical thinker and problem solver
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills
