Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Content and Storytelling in Manchester. Leading our content strategy and the editorial plan, you will lead a best-in-class team of communications, writing and content specialists, and oversee the creation of compelling written assets that engage internal and external stakeholders for Syngenta Group and Crop Protection and Seeds Corporate, ensuring alignment with the company's brand, business strategy and messaging. Responsibilities/accountabilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead a dynamic team of 5-8 content creators to craft compelling narratives that showcase our position as a pioneer in global agriculture innovation.
  • Build broader public understanding about farming and how modern farming technologies combat world hunger.
  • Showcase how Syngenta is helping farmers combat climate change and mitigate the adverse effects of extreme weather.
  • Run an agriculture-focused newsroom across multiple channels (social media, video, etc.), develop an editorial calendar and ensure consistent story development.
  • Collaborate across other teams to ensure integrated storytelling.
  • Manage the book of work, maintain project plans, triage incoming requests and ensure timely delivery of best-in-class content.
  • From Manchester, oversee the development of global stories that are timely.
  • Continuously review content, data, and feedback to improve storytelling and the editorial calendar.
  • Manage the storytelling budget.
  • Support the Head of Communications Services in the delivery of the team's strategy.

 

What we are looking for

Our industry and our function are changing rapidly so we are looking for new team members with a strong desire to develop themselves. You will be a great fit if you have:

  • Extensive experience of working as a journalist and managing a newsroom, or in a leadership role in corporate communications or corporate affairs for a large, international corporation.
  • A passion for writing and storytelling is essential.
  • A track record of managing deadlines, complex stories and handling data.
  • Proven leadership experience with an ability to build and motivate a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network with and influence more senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of helping to shape and manage an integrated corporate narrative in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders, regional contexts, to ensure clear understanding of the brand and values.
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Flexibility to travel, including internationally, for assignments.

 

Additionally, it will be nice if you also have

  • Scientific knowledge about agriculture, biology, chemistry or life science a plus.
  • Any additional languages (in addition to fluent English) are advantageous.
