We are currently looking for a Hazard Communication Expert within our Global Regulatory Function in our headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. As a member of our high-performing, dynamic and collaborative team you will:

Accountabilities

  • Deliver Classification & Labelling and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) activities, in alignment with the contributing functions and global processes:
    • Produce classification and labelling of substances and mixtures according to EU CLP regulation and UN GHS, ensuring compliance of the respective portfolio and thus enabling safe and compliant transport and supply, in line with business processes.
    • Produce SDS for Syngenta’s globally managed materials (active ingredients, intermediates, formulated products).
    • Delivering classification positions and SDS for new active ingredients, supporting Syngenta’s aim of bringing innovation to growers.
    • Maintain master data in SAP EHS.
    • Manage 3rd party SDS.
    • Assess toxicological and ecotoxicological data for classification and labelling purposes in coordination with expert toxicologists. 
  • Contribute to the global hazard communication processes in close cooperation with affected and contributing stakeholders globally and cross-functionally:
    • Support global hazard communication projects that address EHS reporting, data quality and change management.
    • Contribute to regular data cleansing and mapping activities.
    • Support with the generation of hazard communication related data and documentation supporting regulatory submissions for active ingredients and products (where relevant).
    • Support the regional and country SDS authors through request and issue management and project contribution to global hazard communication initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Global CP Regulatory Process, Data and Systems team to test systems as required (e.g. SAP EHS UATs) and to ensure general EHS and hazard communication processes are continuously improved.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in science and preferably post-graduate qualification (MSc, PhD) or equivalent professional experience in a product safety or regulatory environment.
  • Min. 2 years working in a regulatory environment with chemical and/or other technical background (such as toxicology, ecotoxicology, etc) and/or experience in an information management/data environment.
  • Experience with SAP EHS beneficial.
  • Knowledge of SDS and hazard/transport classification processes and regulations with experience in REACH, EU CLP, UN GHS beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills across functional and geographic boundaries.
  • Ability to analyse problems and to manage large amounts of detailed information. 
  • Ability to work within and contribute to cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent spoken and written English (ability in in other languages beneficial).
