As a Group Carbon Accounting Manager, you will lead the calculation of Group scope 3 emissions in a way that is suitable for steering and reporting, working closely with the several functions within the Business Units of the Syngenta Group and at Group level. You will drive process and methodology implementation and improvements to ensure scientifically sound corporate carbon footprint calculations. 

This role’s scope of work is corporate carbon footprint reporting activities. It excludes direct responsibility for product carbon footprint, except for ensuring alignment in methodologies and working towards efficiency across all carbon reporting activities when possible.

We all have a critical role to play and add value. Here is how this role will help:

  • Leads scope 3 reporting:
    • Leads the development and implementation of the scope 3 emissions reporting framework for Syngenta Group
    • Leads the Syngenta Group scope 3 emissions calculations on an annual basis, ensuring data quality and timely reporting
    • Strives to continuously improve scope 3 reporting, by providing advice and supporting relevant functions with the implementation of improved practices
  • Drives process and methodology implementation and improvements:
    • Establishes an internal process to collect annual Scope 3 data across the different business units and following a consistent methodology across the group
    • Evaluates and implements methodology changes whenever needed according to reporting standards and state-of-the-science
    • Leads the implementation of an internal control system to ensure risk mitigation while collecting and processing Scope 3 data across the group
  • Leads corporate carbon footprint reporting:
    • Is Syngenta Group’s point of contact for the Group’s corporate carbon footprint liaising with functions within the Business Units and at Group level 
    • Acts as business partner between sustainability team and Group and BU HSE teams for scope 1+2 emissions, ensuring scope 1+2 emissions are aligned with latest standards required to calculate and report on the corporate carbon footprint (scope 1+2+3)
    • Supports ESG reporting and disclosure activities
    • Support with external assurance obligations and engagement with auditors
  • Understands and implements emerging requirements according to given frameworks:
    • Keeps up to date with GHG protocol (corporate standard), SBTi and relevant corporate carbon reporting standards
    • Advises on needed corporate carbon reporting actions and improvements
    • Supports potential SBTi submission or re-submission
  • Assist in developing decarbonization roadmaps across the group and liaises with stakeholders on carbon related topics:
    • Collaborates across the Group to provide scientific calculations to simulate reduction impacts of different decarbonization scenarios
    • Shares his/her expertise on state-of-the-art frameworks so that related carbon topics can be set into context

Qualifications

You will be a great fit if you have:

  • Technical, chemical, or natural sciences degree
  • minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental sustainability and proficiency in carbon accounting
  • Previous experience with industrial/chemical companies and good understanding of the agricultural industry
  • Knowledge and working experience in:
    • Calculating corporate carbon footprints, in particular scope 3 emissions
    • GHG reporting protocols and standards
    • State-of-the art science on carbon accounting
    • Familiarity with and experience in using IT systems for scope 3 measurement would be beneficial
  • Strong data analytical skills and experience with developing calculation tools
  • Familiar with ESG reporting, and associated internal control practices, documentation and assurance
  • Change and project management capabilities and an ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and diverse stakeholders
  • Attention to quality and detail and solid analytical skills and pragmatic mindset
  • Ability to build trust, influence and manage key stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to challenge status quo
  • Fluent English language knowledge
