Job description

Assist Crop Protection Field Development Scientist implementation of the Product Evaluation field program, sales support, and other relevant activities. Examples include:

  •  Maintain equipment and facilities to enhance trial and data quality.
  •  Provide assistance with or perform in-season operations such as planting, treatment applications, evaluations, scouting, maintenance, and other field program tasks.
  •  Perform and/or facilitate pre-season and post season site maintenance operations to ensure continuous productivity of trial sites.
  •  Provide assistance with plot tours, i.e. site preparations, signs and handouts.
  •  Assist with site compliance with local regulations and Syngenta’s Safety Guidelines.
  •  Communicate with Syngenta contact regarding the status of projects and work activities.
  •  Ability to work independently without direct oversight.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Minimum high school diploma/GED required. Could include previous work experience in a related field (e.g. farm experience, equipment repair, Ag-Chem research/development, or similar) OR working on a degree in Agriculture or agriculture related discipline. Good oral and written communication as well as some computer skills.

Experience with one or more of the following (all are preferred):

  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating farm equipment.
  • An understanding of and appreciation for the scientific method.
  • Experience in field-testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of local agronomic practices and customer needs.
  • Will need to work with others yet maintain the ability to work independently in a proactive manner.
  • Must be willing to work beyond normal work day hours.
  • Willingness to work outdoors.

Additional information:

  •  Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  •  Clerical/administrative components may be required to complete work.
  •  Background check(s) and physicals are required.
  •  All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.

Physical demands of the essential functions:

  •  Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field.
  •  Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  •  Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle.

Working conditions while performing essential functions: Field, laboratory, office.

  •  Domestic travel may be required with occasional overnight stays (up to approximately 5%).
  •  Potential allergens/pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in the field.
