Role Purpose

  • Establish the nematode lab in India and drive all the activities related to nematodes as per need.
  • Establish a good trial site (sick plots) for different nematode species to conduct In-house trials.
  • Develop research strategies and design experiments to investigate nematode-related topics, including taxonomy, population dynamics, host-parasite interactions, and integrated pest management strategies.
  • Involve in nematode mapping to create awareness of nematode in farmer communities and ultimately help to generate the business for nematicides products of Syngenta.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including academic institutions, and government agencies, to identify research needs and opportunities. Establish and maintain professional networks within the nematology community.
  • The nematology lead plays an important role in educating and training the CPD team. Additionally, the lead engages in outreach activities to raise awareness about nematodes, their impact on agriculture, and the importance of nematology research for sustainable practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in nematology research, including new techniques, tools, and technologies. Evaluate and implement innovative approaches to enhance research efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Execution of In-house and Registration trials across all indications .

Accountabilities

  • Accountable for planning and conducting research projects in nematology. This involves identifying research objectives, formulating research questions, designing experiments, and implementing data collection and analysis protocols. You ensure that research activities are carried out effectively, adhering to scientific standards and ethical guidelines.
  • As the nematology lead, you are accountable for establishing and maintaining collaborations with other researchers and institutions stakeholders. This involves actively seeking opportunities for collaboration, attending conferences and scientific meetings, and building a network of experts in the field. By fostering collaboration, you contribute to the advancement of nematology research and facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Responsible for providing education and mentorship to field biology, technical & commercial teams in the field of nematology.
  • Accountable for engaging with agricultural industries, government agencies, and other stakeholders involved in nematology-related issues. By actively collaborating with these entities, you contribute to the development and implementation of nematode management strategies, and ensure that research aligns with practical applications and industry needs.
  • As a nematology lead, you have ongoing accountability to stay updated with the latest advancements and developments in nematology. You actively participate in professional development activities, such as attending relevant conferences, workshops, and training programs. This enables you to enhance your expertise, stay abreast of emerging trends, and continually improve the quality and impact of your research.

  • Technical knowledge in the CP domain.
  • Keeping up with the latest research and advancements in nematology is essential to stay ahead in the field. Developing innovative approaches for nematode research can greatly contribute to success.

  • Good interpersonal relationship.

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

 

Critical experience

  • To have a minimum of 5 years of experience in product development in Nematology in Agricultural Companies (preferably in Crop Protection Companies)
  • Experience in handling nematology labs and trials.
  • Good understanding of taxonomy, population dynamics and host-parasite interactions.
  • Crop Protection background is a must.
  • Ability to influence people.
  • Experience working with stakeholders in the agricultural sector and influencers.
  • Analytical & strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Broad knowledge of agriculture, crop production techniques and of use crop protection chemicals.
  • Ability to interact, work in teams, lead, make decisions and influence people.

 


    Qualifications

    Critical knowledge

    • Degree qualification in a relevant Agri-science discipline (MSc or PhD desired)
    • Post-graduate/PhD degree in Nematology discipline.
    • Critical knowledge of plant parasitic nematodes in India.
    • Some experience in developing product development strategies.
    • Crop, pest, geographies, customer (farmer) knowledge.
    • Team building and team leading experience.
