We are currently looking for an Environmental Liabilities and Remediation Manager to provide technical guidance on environmental issues to support Syngenta activities. In this role, you will manage environmental remediation projects, focusing on those in Switzerland, and provide technical expertise on other environmental liability management activities; provide technical guidance and support to Syngenta operations on environmental management issues including pollution prevention, waste and wastewater management, air emissions; provide technical guidance to minimize environmental risks and liabilities in business transactions such as divestments, decommissioning, acquisitions and construction projects. 

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensure environmental management activities are carried out in line with business objectives to comply with regulatory and Syngenta requirements, minimize liabilities and ensure company reputation is maintained
  • Manage environmental remediation projects in Switzerland and other locations in collaboration with the internal and external resources and maintain comprehensive technical oversight to deliver agreed objectives
  • Work in accordance with the Syngenta Environmental Provisions governance process and maintain financial oversight of designated projects
  • Provide technical support to Syngenta operations on wide-ranging environmental matters
  • Be an active member of the Syngenta Global Environmental Centre of Expertise to drive continuous improvement in environmental management standards and ways of working
  • Participate in the Syngenta Global HSE Management Audit program and other audits to assess environmental management and other HSE management subjects
  • Represent Syngenta’s environmental interests in industry groups and other third-party organizations

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, hydrogeology or related science
  • 10 years environmental management and / or environmental remediation experience in environmental consulting, chemical manufacturing, or similar
  • Extensive management of environmental liabilities and remediation projects
  • Independent work without close supervision and with limited guidance
  • Provision of technical expertise within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Influencing key stakeholders, regulatory authorities and other third-parties to achieve appropriate and proportionate management of environmental risks and liabilities
  • Technical expertise in soil and groundwater investigation, remediation and other key environment management subjects
  • Detailed knowledge of environmental regulations in Switzerland
  • Broad understanding of general environmental regulatory requirements globally. Able to quickly assimilate and apply new technical and regulatory knowledge
  • Proficient in English and German, essential. Additional foreign language skills, especially French, beneficial
  • Experience and competence in other areas of HSE management advantageous
