Role Purpose

  • Establish and lead a support structure that empowers engineering teams to deliver high-quality products efficiently.
  • Develop and implement strategies for effective test automation, enhancing the speed and reliability of the release cycles.
  • Oversee incident management processes, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on operations.
  • Refine change management protocols to facilitate smooth transitions and adoption of new systems or processes.
  • Manage internal communications within the engineering department, ensuring clarity, transparency, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Create an environment of continuous learning and improvement, incorporating feedback and metrics to drive development practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and remove obstacles that impede engineering performance and innovation.
  • Champion the adoption of best practices in solution development, testing, and fostering a culture of excellence

Accountabilities

  • Ensure the provision of robust support and enablement services to software engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and maintain effective test automation strategies that align with organizational goals and contribute to a reduction in time-to-market.
  • Effectively manage incident response and resolution processes, minimizing downtime and maintaining service quality.
  • Oversee change management initiatives, ensuring they are executed accurately and with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Provide clear and consistent communications related to engineering initiatives, changes, and outcomes.
  • Independently identify and implement improvements in engineering processes, tools, and practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to align engineering enablement strategies with broader business objectives.

Qualifications

Requirements: Knowledge, experience & capabilities

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and drive performance.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record in project management and the delivery of technical initiatives.
  • A commitment to professional development and staying abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies.

Critical knowledge

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of software development life cycles, test automation frameworks, and modern deployment practices.
  • Knowledge of incident management protocols and best practices in IT service management.
  • Familiarity with change management principles and communication strategies within a technical environment.

Critical experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering environment with at least 2 years in an enablement or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading test automation initiatives and understanding of relevant tools (e.g., Selenium, Jenkins).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading development teams utilizing build automation and CI/CD methods.
  • Experience in managing incident response teams and familiarity with incident management software (e.g., PagerDuty, ServiceNow).
  • Experience enabling critical engineering tools/platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage and communicate change effectively in a fast-paced technology organization.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and integrate complex software systems.
  • Proficiency in project planning tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict, and influence others.
  • High level of personal organization and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Critical leadership capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and initiatives, driving collaboration and fostering a shared vision.
  • Capacity to mentor and develop talent within the engineering teams, promoting career growth and skill development.
  • Strategic vision for the enablement of engineering practices, with a focus on long-term scalability and efficiency.
  • Proven competence in decision-making and resource allocation to optimize team performance and meet strategic objectives.
