At Syngenta, we believe every employee has a role to play in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, the Seeds Development team within our Analytics and Data Sciences group is currently seeking a Data Governance and Security Engineer. 

Role Purpose: 

  • Define cybersecurity governance and functional support roles: Establish clear roles and responsibilities within the cybersecurity governance framework to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of security measures.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures: Create comprehensive policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines to facilitate secure adoption of cybersecurity best practices across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity measures: Monitor adherence to established cybersecurity policies and procedures, and ensure that all relevant parties are compliant.
  • Promote security awareness: Ensure that employees have an appropriate level of awareness regarding security threats and risks.
  • Incident management: Ensure that all security incidents are reported, investigated, and measures are taken to prevent their recurrence.
  • Interface with various teams: Establish interfaces for activities between groups/teams and roles not specifically a part of the cybersecurity governance or support model.
  • Support role governance structure: Work with key stakeholders and participants to maintain a successful role governance structure, including onboarding, managing, and offboarding employee identities, and overseeing user access provisioning and de-provisioning processes.

Accountabilities: 

  • Ensure and maintain a robust and comprehensive cybersecurity governance framework that supports the organization's objectives and aligns with industry best practices.
  • Ensure cybersecurity policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines are effectively integrated into business operations.
  • Regularly assess and enforce compliance with cybersecurity policies and regulations, both internally and with external partners.
  • Manage, identify, evaluate, and mitigate cybersecurity risks in a proactive manner, ensuring the protection of organizational assets.
  • Lead initiatives to raise cybersecurity awareness across the organization, fostering a culture of security-minded behavior.
  • Direct and refine the organization's approach to cybersecurity incident management, ensuring swift and effective action in the event of a breach.
  • Work independently, yet collaboratively, with various teams to ensure cybersecurity considerations are integrated into all facets of the organization.
  • Continuously monitor the cybersecurity landscape for emerging threats and advancements, adapting the governance strategy to maintain organizational resilience.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

  • Strong in data analytics, statistics, or a related field. 
  • Technical expert in SQL, Python, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). 
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Strong communication skills for effective cross-departmental collaboration. 

Critical knowledge

  • Cybersecurity Frameworks and Standards: Familiarity with global cybersecurity standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, and industry-specific regulations to ensure the organization's cybersecurity practices align with these standards. 
  • Risk Management: Ability to assess and manage cybersecurity risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them. This includes understanding the organization's risk appetite and how it informs cybersecurity governance. 
  • Policy Development: Knowledge of how to develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies and procedures that protect the organization's assets and data. 

Qualifications

Required Critical experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analytics, life science, cybersecurity, data governance/stewardship or a related field. 
  • Proven track record of developing effective data models and KPIs. 
  • Experience developing data strategy to deliver projects in complex data environments. 
  • Experience building and maintaining reports for organizational decision-making. 

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • SQL, Python, R, or comparable skillset. 
  • Strong experience with cybersecurity, R&D data domain, data governance, data stewardship, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

Critical leadership capabilities

  • Ability to make informed decisions that align with the organization's data strategy and cybersecurity policies. 
  • Strong skills in influencing others and collaborating across various departments to ensure cybersecurity governance standards are met. 
  • Capability to lead and manage change within the organization, particularly in relation to cybersecurity governance initiatives and culture. 
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate cybersecurity governance policies and their importance to stakeholders at all levels.
