Role Purpose :

  • Lead the Vegetable Business to deliver short & midterm Business, targets while building & effective, sustainable long-term end to end Business.
  • Contribute to Global & Regional Veg. strategy as well as specific crop strategies as a key driver to deliver sustainable long term business objectives
  • Design and drive evolution of GTM strategies to deliver effective and efficient business
  • Actively Manage the human capital within the country to ensure high performing teams, building an effective talent pool for a sustainable future
  • Nurture key contacts in the veg industry and build relationship with outside bodies that have major influence on Syngenta Business and our license to operate
  • Monitor business performance and adjust strategies to achieve sales, profitability and overall business targets
  • Engage with Syngenta Country leadership to ensure effective value adding collaboration across the country with a focus on overlapping strategies and managing shared resources
  • Ensure Syngenta’s full compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework as well as Syngenta’s own legal and ethical, HSE, Corporate security, Risk Management and corporate governance standards
  • Provide overall business unit Leadership for Veg SE teams in the territory operating in R&D, Production & Supply operations.

Accountabilities :

  • Veg BU has shared responsibility for shaping and delivering the country Strategic Agenda, and represents all Veg Seeds BU functions at the Country Leadership Team.
  • Represent Territory at Asia VSLT forum. Contribute in designing and implementation of Asia Veg Strategic Agenda
  • Leads the Vegetable Seeds country Leadership Team for the support from Veg-focused Finance, Legal, HR, Regulatory, P&S and R&D Leads and commercial team. 
  • To achieve the Veg Seeds business delivery including implementing the Veg commercial strategy for the country within the Regional Veg strategic 5 year roadmap
  • Responsible for Sales and profit targets for the Veg BU and lead the achievement of relevant Veg Seeds BU KPIs for the Country.
  • Inspire, lead and collaborate with dedicated high performance Veg Seeds Commercial, R&D and P&S with a business Excellence remit
  • Manages Veg operational budget in alignment with Regional priorities, and responsible for Veg demand management and 5 year outlook
  • Own the Regional MBR S&OP review for Territory with the help of Demand Planner, Finance BP and Supply Operations

  • Develop and manage country Sales  Teams by redefining key accountabilities and adjusting ways of working with other functional teams, including:
    • Put in place the necessary activities to ensure business continuity
    • Support development and implementation of new processes/ways of working.
    • Support driving appointment process and fostering mindset change.
  • Establish connectivity with Asia/Crop and Leadership Team to ensure effective/efficient communication.
  • Identify capability gaps in the team and propose and implement capability development plan

Qualifications

Critical Experience :

  • Internal experience of the agri-business sector in Sales marketing and Strategy (15-20 Years)
  • Working relationship with above country organization and matrix organization

Education :

  • Bachelors/Masters in Science  (Agriculture/Botany/Zoology, Soil Science. etc), Business Administration.

Critical knowledge :

  • Industry relationship and understanding of forums and associations
  • Syngenta products and key competitor products
  • Crops and agronomy knowledge
  • Customers / Channels in country
  • Internal processes / governance
  • Business operations, basic understanding on Marketing, R&D and finance

  • Understand market dynamics and competitive environment in Veg markets in SA and translate it into strategy.
  • Designs effective product life cycle management strategy and crop strategy
  • Ability to apply Marketing and Sales Excellence effectively
