Role purpose

The Advancement & Placement Lead will play instrumental role on driving collaboration with Decision Science portfolio and teams across Syngenta and leading Vegetables & Flowers Seeds Development teams to:

  • Streamline data flows and enable new analytical capabilities for product advancement and placement
  • Optimize trial experimental design across pipeline stages
  • Drive implementation of prescriptive modelling at scale and integrating GxExM across production environments and customer segments

Accountabilities

  • Lead and steer delivery of ad hoc analytics as necessary to meet advancement and placement objectives in close collaboration with Market Segment and Germplasm Development teams
  • Steer the enablement and transition to new analytical tools proactively while optimizing data flows and simplifying ways of working 
  • Drive collaboration with Decision Science portfolio teams on product advancement and placement and contribute towards development of advanced analytical capabilities
  • Lead the optimization of experimental design for testing across production environments and pipeline stages to fully leverage and maximize predictive breeding outcomes
  • Optimize environment and management data standards, capture and processing to enable GxExM at scale
  • Leverage insights and data from targeted production environments and customer segments to develop crop management prescriptions for key germplasm to optimize variety distribution and new product introduction
  • Drive cross-functional collaborations, leverage existing knowledge and expertise, and foster creativity to accelerate advancement and placement capabilities across vegetable crops
  • Keep up to date with internal and external scientific advancements in biostatistics and data science toolbox and methodologies. Spearhead initiatives that advance innovation in vegetable teams.
  • Coach/mentor direct reports and extended team members, and contribute towards employee development on day to day basis. Participate in recruiting or people initiatives as appropriate

Qualifications

Critical Knowledge

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in seeds industry R&D setting
  • Expertise in statistics and experimental design, predictive modeling and relevant omics technologies
  • Understanding of commercial breeding pipeline and product testing, product advancement process and placement objectives

Critical Experience

  • Advanced data fluency and excellent command of open-source programming languages
  • Experience with large, complex datasets encompassing structured or unstructured sources and diverse phenotypic, environmental and crop management data
  • Experience developing and/or deploying statistical modelling and machine learning
  • Experience with cloud computing applications, API architectures, and visualization platforms
  • Experience developing analytical tools, user interfaces and standalone applications
  • Proven experience with good coding practices such as version control, code documentation, automated testing, and code review

Travel within region and internationally up to 10%
