To support that challenge, Syngenta’s Seeds Development team the is currently seeking a Trialing Specialist in South Georgia.

The Trialing Specialist will support external trialing activities with growers and with Contract Research Organizations.

Accountabilities:

  • End to end execution of research level trials to evaluate the performance of experimental seed varieties/hybrids
  • Responsible for planting, field harvest, product evaluation trials activities and data collection. Use data collection tools to collect and record detailed observations and measurements from trial plots, ensuring accuracy and consistency in data collection.
  • Communicate regularly with the trialing lead, product placement scientists and breeders to re-port on trial progress and any issues encountered at trial locations.
  • Implement the end-to-end Trialing process to include setup and maintenance of trials from planting to harvest and tracking of different experimental entries.
  • Participate in trialing activities from sowing to harvest including but not limited to planning, seed shipment, seed reception, request, sowing, planting, transplanting labelling, harvest, and data collection.
  • Operate and maintain GPS-equipped tractors/planters and other seed research equipment with complex mechanical and electronic components.
  • Use different phenotyping tools to secure trial data collection and data storage. Input and maintain data in IT system or database.
  • Interact with commercial Syngenta team and growers to ensure timely trial cycles are achieved.
  • Collect data for trials, operations KPIs, and workflow KPIs to determine areas for improvement and process risks
  • Participate in research projects and process-improvement initiatives related to the trialing and phenotyping vegetable varieties.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required (preferably in agronomy, horticulture, plant science or an agricultural related field)
  • Must be available for unscheduled work based on business needs or weather conditions (including weekends).
  • Hands on experience in operation of GPS-equipped tractors/planters, combines, electronic equipment, tablets, drones, farming software, robotics, and/or other precision agriculture equipment. 
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a federal medical card to operate commercial motor vehicles is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in high and low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship support from Syngenta.

Preferred:

  • Strong digital fluency, with strong skillset in MS Office Suite and database management skills
  • Understanding of the practices and procedures that affect trial data precision and accuracy.
  • A basic understanding of plant physiology and breeding.
  • Ability to operate phenotyping tools, like tablets, drones, and other tools needed for agricultural research projects, and motivation to learn new digital skills.
  • Experience in electronic data collection, imaging or high throughput phenotyping tools.
  • Experience in the operation, adjustment, maintenance of and ability to do minor repair on various plot equipment, including a planter, tractor, cultivator, sprayer, and combine.
