Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. We are currently seeking a Staff Packaging Engineer for the Product Technology and Engineering team in Greensboro, NC. As a Staff Packaging Engineer you will be responsible for leading packaging development projects and implementing innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that maximize the competitive advantage of our products to farmers. You will provide troubleshooting support to adjacent supply chain functions (procurement, manufacturing, quality, etc.), to ensure a safe, user-friendly customer experience. Also, you will lead continuous improvement projects and coach/lead junior engineers.

This position will be in a hybrid work environment, onsite in Greensboro, NC for 3-4 days per week in the lab or office. Up to 5-10% travel required to manufacturing sites or meetings domestically within the US, occasionally internationally, as needed.

Duties:

  • Can work independently with other packaging engineers and all functions (i.e. procurement, commercial, manufacturing, regulatory, logistics, etc.) to deliver goals on key projects or initiatives, besides set priorities and ensure efficient communication regarding to packaging development
  • Support continuous improvement of packaging development and related processes
  • Capable to support packaging projects related to maintenance and/or troubleshooting support to adjacent supply chain functions (procurement, manufacturing, etc.), as well as, to end-users in the marketplace
  • Ensure all packaging testing and qualification projects meet a high level of scientific integrity
  • May be able to mentor, train and assist new engineers on projects, policies, and processes
  • Capable of delivering new technologies and innovation

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with 5+ years of proven experience in a technical position in packaging for manufacturing
  • Strong project management, continuous improvement, process risk assessment, and safety excellence mindset
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead large projects
  • Experience working in a cross-functional organization while ensuring project delivery
  • Proven ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple requests from different stakeholders                                                                      
  • Understanding of the end-to-end processes for product development and lifecycle management

Preferred:

  • MBA
  • Packaging experience with e-commerce
  • Experience with ISTA/UN and ASTM4169 packaging
