Job description

Role Purpose

  • To develop the knowledge, the best scalable agronomical practices and solutions for vegetable seed production which enables a more profitable, stable and sustainable seed business.
  • To follow a scientific method approach (hypothesis testing) to generate information that assists data-driven decision in vegetable seed production.
  • To deliver innovative and advanced seed production technologies that help overcoming existing challenges and or that bring improving opportunities along with future ready approach.
  • To be the dependable member in the regional vegetable field production organization providing agronomical (practical and scientific) advise to local production teams.
  • Building collaborative and constructive interactions with other business functions outside own organization.

Accountabilities 

  • To provide technical and scientific assistance to Field Production (FP) teams to solve agronomical seed production constraints.
  • To independently carry out research studies including experimental design, trial/experiments execution, data collection, data storage and processing and concluding recommendations.
  • To perform a thorough management of owned projects from planning to implementation. This includes accurate project planning, activities tracking, timely updates to stakeholders and sponsors, and budgets setting and maintenance.
  • To proactively look for improvements in our seed productions operations to improve quality, reliability, profitability, stability and sustainability.
  • To support the regional Field Production Research (FPR) lead with project portfolio building process. This include ideas collection, proposal definition and sponsor approval.
  • To act as technological gatekeeper in charge of scouting, diffusing and piloting the latest technology from external and internal sources into the vegetables FP organization.
  • To independently arrange and lead formal and informal meetings with pertinent internal partners to discuss matters within the FPR area.
  • To be aware and comply in daily activities and projects with the Syngenta code of conduct and HSE and Sustainability policies and standards.
  • To be able to present the agronomic information generated from his/her area of responsibility to key stakeholders. This information could be presented through diverse ways, formal and informal and might include non-technical people.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical knowledge

  • Competent knowledge for Agronomic Engineering, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Applied Biology and Plant Protection.
  • Statistical Design, data analysis and storage.
  • Proficient in English language – spoken and written.

Critical experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Agricultural Research, Agricultural Development, Hybrid Seed Production, Parental Seed Production, or Hybrid Seed Production Research.
  • Project creation and project management.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

 

  • Assertive and influencing communication when dealing with technically challenging situations.
  • Project planning and execution.
  • Ability to understand and solve potential conflicts for technical views / opinions.
  • Self-Judgment on decision making before sharing it next level.
  • Ability to catalyze transformation and change in the organization.
  • Sound analytical and problem solving/solid skills.

Additional Information

  • Being able to travel at least 20-70% of his/her time coordinating and supervising the job at different locations / countries.
  • Ability to work independently without much direct supervision.
