Role Purpose

  • To support the Site (eg. Production, Engineering, Logistics) for operational safety & health compliance with all applicable Singapore regulations and Syngenta internal standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Support the Syngenta Kendall Lab operations broadly covering formulation technology and genotyping lab teams in their understanding of hazardous control measures associated with operational activities and provide practical services and advice to enable them to minimize the likelihood of safety & health hazards.
  • To support the implementation of the initiatives that are necessary to develop Syngenta’s safety & health strategy for the facility.
  • To promote and improve the overall HSE culture onsite.
  • To effectively implement and consistently improve Syngenta HSE Management System at the site
  • Support leadership teams in achieving and sustaining Goal Zero injury and illness performance.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure the site’s compliance with Syngenta’s HSE Policy and implementation of Syngenta’s HSE management system including its elements, standards, requirements; and drive actions following any audit findings
  • Schedule and conduct HSE inspections and audits with help from team members
  • Develop, enforce, and promote workplace safety & health procedures
  • Conduct investigation of any incidents or accidents at the workplace
  • Conduct Process and workplace risk assessments
  • Establish and maintain a connection to authorities and keep abreast of new or emerging HSE legislations
  • Ensure permits are acquired for new facilities/operations and that they are maintained according to applicable regulations
  • Maintain collaboration with the regional HSE team by driving regional or global HSE initiatives on-site.
  • Drive initiatives on sustainability to meet relevant KPIs
  • Organise & coordinate HSE training with help from the HSE coordinator & other activities to promote HSE culture.
  • Communication and negotiation with waste vendors regarding site waste requirements, particularly for new product introduction on site.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

  • Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety/ Chemical engineering/ equivalent qualifications
  • Registered as a Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO)
  • Recognized H&S qualification
  • Familiar with Singapore regulatory safety and health and its application in the process industries
  • Understanding of chemical laboratory operations.
  • Knowledge of the investigation methods of any incidents (e.g Fault tree, 5 whys, TOPSET)
  • Knowledge of the various types of workplace safety, health, and environmental hazards
  • Interpretation of current and forthcoming safety and health legislation (Singapore) and Syngenta Standards
  • Implement and ensure appropriate local and company-required documentation (e.g. Risk Assessments, HSE-related SOPs)
  • Familiarity with HSE Management Systems preferred.
