Senior Scientist - Bioprocess Development

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity in our expanding Bioprocess Development team, which is made up of talented scientists from both industry and academia. Biological based technologies are expected to deliver a significant contribution to the future of agriculture alongside conventional technologies. Microbials and biomolecules will play a pivotal role in the development of these novel biological products for growers. You will focus on the development and application of modern biotechnology processes for the production of next generation crop protection products. As a Senior Scientist, based at our Jealott's Hill International Research Centre, you will;

  • Develop robust, innovative bioprocess concepts for portfolio projects.
  • Collaborate with external contract research and academic partners.
  • Prepare technical reports, present findings within project teams and be an active communicator within the wider Syngenta scientific community.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure lab conforms to all Syngenta HSE principles and standards.
  • Contribute to Syngenta’s biotransformation strategy.

 

Education & experience required:

  • Strong technical knowledge of microbial Fermentation and/or Downstream Processing.
  • BSc/MSc or PhD in relevant fields (bioprocess/biochemical engineering, industrial microbiology etc) plus solid practical experience in Bioprocess Development (e.g., fermentation, lysis, chromatographic methods, TFF, spray drying) within R&D in an industrial/academic setting.
  • Experience in process development and scale-up of biotechnological processes is desirable.
  • Experience working in cross functional projects is desirable.
  • An in-depth knowledge of solvent extraction methodologies and protein analytical techniques would be an advantage.
  • Have a keen and enquiring mindset, with ability to problem solve and work collaboratively to implement solutions.
  • Have a proactive approach to developing digital skills, including working with complex datasets and adopting new technologies.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety, technical support of our product range and seeds research.
