Job description

Deliver capital projects as part of the Syngenta capital investment program by doing the following:

  • Leading capital projects as a project manager or project engineer; this could be as the project manager or technical responsibility across a whole project or a cross-functional responsibility for a part or phase of a project, thus ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with business requirements and within cost and safety parameters.
  • Offering expert advice and guidance at crucial stages of the project process through the timely application of technical and project management expertise.
  • Directly manage projects by agreeing on, setting, and achieving challenging success criteria.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies with a project team primarily consisting of third parties, including Syngenta staff, design and construction contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Collaborate with project owners to define the project scope, often navigating significant ambiguity until a term of reference is established.
  • Define, estimate, deliver, track, and report on safety, costs, and physical progress of individual capital projects.
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive applications for engineering capital approvals and project completion reports.
  • Ensure complete integration of commissioning and startup activities with the design and construction phases of projects.
  • Works within a defined execution strategy.
  • Uses technical knowledge to contribute to improvement activities.
  • Clarifies requirements and develops solutions.
  • Involves the right people to obtain needed information and delivers work by collaborating with others.

Qualifications

Critical success factors & key challenges

  • Understands what constitutes a project change and follows the correct change assessment processes.
  • Manages engineering work execution following local safety procedures.
  • Trained in construction safety management and able to apply Syngenta CoPs and Process Safety Management guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence colleagues at all levels, and operates in a matrix organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or construction management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certified preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering and/or manufacturing experience.
  • Relevant project management, engineering and manufacturing experience.
  • Large understanding of manufacturing issues and experience in transformation projects.
