Our Jealott’s Hill R&D site hosts a vibrant multi-disciplinary scientific community of around 800 people.  Located between Maidenhead and Bracknell it offers a spacious and green campus environment with comprehensive sports facilities, catering facilities & social clubs. About the Role: 

Syngenta are now recruiting a Senior Physical Scientist to work within its Process Studies Group at its Jealott’s Hill research site, Bracknell, UK.  This role will provide crystallisation and surface physical science expertise for new and existing processes and products. Using leading edge equipment, you will be part of a diverse, global team carrying out business specific and long-term cross-disciplinary strategic research. The Process Studies Group is a highly collaborative team that applies experimental and modelling techniques to a diverse range of projects working closely with internal and academic colleagues. It also offers excellent development opportunities, such as local and international secondments within the company, to understand the wider business and tailor your career path to your interests.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in at least one modelling technique e.g. process models (gPROMS, CFD etc.), molecular modelling (DFT, MD, DPD etc.), physical property prediction, chemometrics, lab automation. Experience, or understanding, of how it could be applied to the field of crystal, solid state or particle science.
  • Experience in coding (python, C#, matlab etc).
  • Scientific curiosity to learn new techniques, explore new innovations and their application to solve problems in projects.
  • A digitally aware mindset with a track record of quantitative data analysis and/or application of data sciences.
  • Interest in lab operations and working with laboratory scientists.

Desirable but not necessary (will be trained on the job)

  • Experience of building statistical or process models from lab data (e.g. gPROMS or otherwise).
  • Experience of laboratory and analytical skills, particularly related to crystal, solid state, or particle science.
  • Lab automation skills (e.g. programming of lab equipment).
  • Experience or knowledge of the challenges faced in an industrial environment.

Qualifications

Education and Personal Attributes

  • A degree or PhD in a chemistry/physical science discipline or chemical/process engineering .
  • Driven by solving technical challenges with an ability and desire to innovate across process or product design. 
  • With high standards of scientific rigour, you should be creative, self-motivated and well organised.
  • As part of a global network, you should have excellent communication and team-working skills.
