Syngenta seeks a Senior Environmental Risk Assessment Scientist to work within the North America Environmental Safety team.

  • Support the development and registration of new active ingredients/products and maintenance of registered active ingredients/products for North America Environmental Safety 
  • Utilize ecotoxicity and exposure data to inform ecological risk assessments including endangered species assessments
  • Develop strategies to utilize higher-tier data and models to refine assessments
  • Collaborate with other regional/global Product Safety and regional Regulatory, Stewardship and Business personnel in support of the Syngenta portfolio and endangered species strategy.
  • You will also have opportunities to publish/present research and/or represent Syngenta via professional organizations/workshops and industry-wide task forces, interact with regulatory authorities, as well as other opportunities for professional development and/or career advancement via technical and leadership pathways.
  • Full time / Permanent Position Location: US Greensboro NC or remote
  • Travel: 2%.
  • Relocation support is available

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in an environmental, agricultural or biological science (Botany, Entomology, Zoology, Ecology, Toxicology, Surface/Ground Water Hydrology, Soil Science, Environmental/Agricultural Engineering or Environmental Chemistry) with 10 years of experience working in the agrochemical industry or Master’s degree with 15 years of experience
  • Direct experience with FIFRA and Endangered Species Risk Assessment processes and concepts
  • Strong advocacy skills and ability to work across teams within and external to Syngenta to develop and promote science critical to our business

  • Position is best suited for an energetic team-player who can operate autonomously, prioritize and adopt work responsibilities, multi-task, understands technical details as well as broader picture, and who values work deadlines and work-life balance
  • Familiar with agriculture and use of agrochemicals
  • Knowledge of regulatory effects and exposure models used for risk assessment including endangered species assessments
  • Ability to plan, organize, adapt, and develop technical skills in disciplines beyond area of expertise
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving
  • Established networks within North America State and Federal Regulatory Agencies as well as industry work groups and task forces
