We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Seeds Lab Process Specialist to join our team. As a Lab Process Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our Seed Physiology and Zygosity Testing for our NA Seed Business. You will be responsible for helping train, improve, and oversee many laboratory testing processes, including germination, vigor, seed physiology, herbicide bioassay and zygosity testing. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in plant sciences, seed technology, and laboratory techniques. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of agricultural innovation and help ensure the quality and viability of our seed products. 

Accountabilities: 

  • Accountability for tracking, troubleshooting, and solving testing issues.   
  • Accountable for ensuring accurate & timely data is recorded; including test validation steps 
  • Prepare procedures and training materials for all staff for laboratory tests in Seed Physiology & Zygosity.  Conduct testing to enable competency & proficiency. 
  • Lead Zygosity testing activities within the laboratory and scoring corresponding genotyping data. 
  • Active involvement in laboratory data management; collection and analysis.   
  • Develop a working understanding and aptitude for all lab testing functions to be able to fill in for technicians when necessary. 
  • Identify & lead projects for laboratory continuous improvement. 
  • Help track KPIs for further continuous improvement across laboratory operations. 
  • Accountable & facilitates that >3 Quality Management Review meetings are set up annually. Process owner for all items involving laboratory testing operations. 
  • Lead & Coach FT Techs & Contractors on proper operational procedures.  Be able to coach across entire laboratory team. 
  • Adhere to all relevant safety guidelines and regulations during laboratory operations.  Show leadership for Goal Zero and HSE initiatives. 
  • Obtain Registered Seed Technologist within 3 years of obtaining role.  Represent Syngenta with state and national seed testing organizations 

Qualifications

Critical Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years relevant work experience (seed production, seed testing, QMS) 

Critical Experience 

  • Preferred: Registered Seed Technologist or in progress 

Critical Capabilities

  • Use of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SAP for transactional accuracy, High attention to detail, strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively drive results while demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and cross-functional teams (i.e. Supply Planning, Logistics, Plants, Genotyping, etc.) 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and balance multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
