Role purpose

Perform lab activities and contribute to Syngenta APAC Genotyping laboratory operations to process the samples and produce quality data to deliver the results to the customers according to the Global Genotyping Lab KPIs.

Accountabilities

  • Perform activities related to the Genotyping lab from sample receiving, DNA extraction and PCR for different crops and sample types.
  • Fast-paced lab environment with accountability for quality and speed of lab work.
  • Function as a member of a diverse team. Interact with peers from APAC Genotyping and other regions and customers from diverse business units. 
  • Participate in Networks and Operational Boards related to the functional scope representing APAC.
  • Deep knowledge on the background of experiments and plant breeding projects. Act as technical expert.
  • Proactively monitors for deviations in process and independently solves complex and varied problems in a creative way and provide innovative technical solutions with limited supervision
  • Develop new processes, procedures, methods, and systems, which require creativity and innovation.
  • Lead projects or projects workstream.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and deliver oral presentations to peers. Contribute to weekly group meetings, monthly and annual Genotyping lab meetings. 
  • May coordinates and supervises the daily activities of a small operations team of non-professionals (at lower Work levels), may allocate work, sets priorities to ensure task completion, coordinates work activities with other supervisors; provides subject matter guidance to other team members.
  • Learn and adapt to new applications and technologies effectively.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with the Syngenta Health, Safety, Environmental Policy and Quality Management/Stewardship guidelines.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Biological Science or related field with 3+ years of professional experience or Master’s degree with 1-3 years experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Sequencing based Genotyping platform is required
  • Knowledge in NextSeq2000 preferred
  • Knowledge in Genotyping technical platforms such as, high throughput PCR platform, Real Time PCR, and Stewardship Quality Control for GM detection.
  • Developing work instructions / SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) is preferred
  • Ability to work well in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout various levels of our organization.
  • Willing to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure, responsible, meticulous with a positive working attitude
