Scientific Specialist (m/f/d) - Insecticide Resistance 

We are looking for a motivated, experienced, and dependable lab-based scientist to contribute to our local and global insecticide resistance projects. This exciting role offers the opportunity to elevate technical skills, implement new technologies in insecticide resistance monitoring/characterization research, and to contribute to the life cycle and development of insecticides. Based at Syngenta's Research Centre in Stein, Switzerland, you will join a highly dynamic, multicultural, and inclusive team, which has its core activities around insecticide resistance research. 

Your responsibilities:

  • In this role you will assist in the planning and execution of lab-based experiments ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results. 
  • We expect you to incorporate your significant practical experience in phenotyping/genotyping in the insecticide resistance operations.
  • You will independently conduct standard molecular assays/insecticide bioassays and assist in insect rearing activities. 
  • You will input, analyze, and report data using the appropriate digital tools.
  • With your strong experience in lab activities you will follow, write, and review SOPs ensuring integrity and compliance in all activities.

Qualifications

What are we looking for:

  • MSc or equivalent Degree in Entomology, Biology, Agricultural Science or related disciplines. 
  • Broad working experience in a research environment.
  • Experience in genotyping using state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cDNA synthesis, agarose gels, qPCR).
  • Experience in phenotyping biological organisms (bioassays).
  • Strong foundation in MS Office and statistical tools (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, GP Prism).
  • Experience with web-based platforms for data capture, storage and report (e.g. Benchling, SharePoint) is an advantage.
  • You are flexible and able to prioritize daily lab activities and experiments according to project timelines.
  • With your openness and understanding of mutuality, your active communication, and continuous value assessment you foster and encourage our team mentality.
  • You communicate and work effectively with scientific and non-scientific staff at all levels within the organization.
  • Advanced written/oral English skills is essential. Knowledge of German is a plus.
