We are seeking a Research Scientist to join the Trait Discovery team of Syngenta Group in Beijing, China.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide scientific expertise in molecular biology for gene discovery and in-planta trait development for insect control traits via teamwork with local and global research teams in Syngenta Group. 

Accountabilities

  • Provides scientific expertise on the discovery, characterization and optimization of trait genes in vitro and/or in crops
  • Drives innovation and science excellences on insect-control trait discovery and in-planta trait development
  • Designs technical experiments and develops project plans by aligning with technical experts and key stakeholders
  • Leads projects and ensures timely project delivery through extensive collaboration with cross-functional teams and effective project management
  • Develops and conducts trait evaluation/phenotyping as well as data analysis and drives project decisions
  • Maintains accurate experimental records and performs all activities in compliance with Syngenta quality management, IP and HSE guidance

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Protein Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Plant Molecular Biolog or related biology majors
  • In-depth knowledge and technical expertise in molecular biology, protein sciences, biochemistry, in planta gene expression and biotech trait development
  • Postdoc or work experience in agriculture industry or in academia is preferred
  • Prior experiences in developing biotech traits in crops are strongly preferred
  • Prior experiences in driving research and collaborating across teams are preferred
  • Proficient in using bioinformatics tools.  Bioinformatics programming skills are a plus
  • Ability to work in greenhouse and/or field environments at times for data collection
  • Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, in both Chinese and English
  • Hard working, down-to-earth, self-motivated, mature and team-oriented

Additional Information

  • ​​​​​​Early morning/late evening teleconferences are required to ensure efficient communication within a global R&D organization
