Job description

Role purpose
•To lead and optimise manufacturing operations ensuring efficient and safe production of quality Crop Protection products in accordance and compliance with national legislation and Syngenta policies and standards
•Continuously improve the capabilities, processes, and assets to meet the business needs
•Manage risk appropriately to ensure compliance to HSEQ processes and requirements
•To provide leadership to the production community and support the implementation of the site plans as part of the site leadership team

Accountabilities

HSE
•Drive HSE occupational and process safety activities and regulatory compliance
•Drive identification, assessment and mitigation of occupational and process safety risks through measurable HSE controls and interventions
•Support site safety objectives and lead initiatives whilst promoting a safety-first culture
•Process Safety Knowledge Owner (PSKO)
•OHSA 16.2 and/or 8.2.i appointee
•Member of the site HSE Committee as a Management representative
•Member of the Site Emergency Management Team

Quality
•Ensure compliance with Syngenta Codes of Practice and regulatory requirements in all production activities, oversee quality control processes and documentation
•Take all necessary steps to prevent residual impurity incidents
•Support the site quality objectives including the site ISO Integrated Management System

Production Management
•Direct daily production operations to meet output, safety and quality targets and standards
•Optimize production processes, workflows, documentation & KPI’s to maximize efficiency and budget targets
•Manage production scheduling and resource allocation
•Monitor and control production costs within budgetary constraints
•Implement and maintain the Syngenta Production System (SPS, covering the principles of lean manufacturing to drive continuous improvement
•Focus effort to reduce production losses and improve efficiency to manage Variable Production costs (VPC), Capitalisable Fixed costs and plant Idle costs
•Lead and manage the process, managing all necessary stakeholders and processes
•Ensure that process, product and organizational changes are effectively managed utilising Management of Change (MOC), New Product Introduction (NPI), technology transfer, PPCR and Capex processes
•Contribute to investment and maintenance plan to sustain assets / infrastructure and support business growth
•Maintain motivation / morale of production team and develop capabilities of individuals to enable effective succession plans
•Close co-operation with fellow departmental m

Qualifications

Competencies, Skills & Experience 

Critical Competencies
•Relevant Engineering Degree
•Extensive knowledge and awareness of the OHSA and applicable legislation in HSEQ including Process Safety and Major Accident Hazards
•Manufacturing Processes understanding, innovative and results orientated
•Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
•Strong people and performance management including teambuilding and leadership development
•Understand the complexities of operating in a global organisation and matrix reporting environment
•Familiar with the principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing
•SAP and LIMS knowledge & experience (beneficial)
•Medically fit to undertake the responsibilities of the role

Critical skills
•HSEQ awareness and concern for standards
•Knowledge of Cross Contamination Prevention Management
•Risk management processes including Hazops, PRA’s and WRA’s
•Familiar with quality/pesticide relevant law, regulations and practice

Critical Experience
•5-10 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
•Experience in a production and processing environment where HSEQ is critical and non-negotiable
•Proven track record of lean manufacturing and project management implementation
•Line Management of multifunctional teams
