DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures stock seeds are received and have all relevant quality information with them and communicates status to the SPM.
  • Ensures timely nursery preparation to adhere to the sowing calendar.
  • Ensure availability of necessary consumables in the nursery for smooth running of nursery activities.
  • Ensures monitoring and reports germination percentages and deficits for action.
  • Ensures proper labeling and color coding at all stages for traceability and purity control.
  • Ensures timely sowing, pricking out and dispatch of seedlings for transplanting as per cropping schedule.
  • Monitors and report any structural anomaly in the greenhouse for action.
  • Ensures timely transplanting of seedlings in the greenhouses as per schedule and parent line location map.
  • Oversees the implementation of the production plan to achieve the set forecasts.
  • Trains production supervisors and ensures the rest of production teams are trained to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  •  Evaluates workers to measure performance and identify areas of improvement
  • Co ordinates all production related activities {planting, labeling, training, desuckering, defoliation, rouging, emasculation, pollen harvesting, pollination and harvesting among others} to ensure good quality seeds.
  • Prepares and submits monthly Vendor progress reports (VPR) to the SPM to ensure the customer is informed on the production progress.
  • Ensures adherence to Phytosanitary standards in the field to control pests and diseases.
  • Checks and reports irrigation anomalies to the relevant personnel for action.
  • Enforces HSE rules and regulations and champions the implementation of the Syngenta HSE policy in all business operations.
  • Any other tasks & projects as may be allocated from time to time.

Qualifications

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or related field
  • 5 years relevant experience in a similar, fast paced environment
  • Ability to lead a diverse team
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Ability to make sound decision within a reasonable time
