The successful candidate will:

  • Have strong technical knowledge of Engineering Biology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Metabolic Engineering, or a related field 
  • Have expertise in the metabolic engineering of filamentous fungi with an understanding of microbial metabolism is highly desirable
  • Have expertise in the metabolic engineering of actinomycetes is desirable
  • Have a keen and enquiring mindset, with ability to problem solve and work collaboratively to implement solutions
  • Have a proactive approach to developing digital skills, including working with complex datasets and adopting new technologies
  • Prepare technical reports, present findings within project teams and be an active communicator within the wider Syngenta scientific community

Qualifications

  • PhD, with post-doctoral experience, or relevant industrial experience, in Engineering Biology, Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Metabolic Engineering, or a related field 
  • Strong microbiology skills and practical experience with cultivating and engineering filamentous fungi is highly desirable
  • Practical experience with cultivating and engineering actinomycetes is desirable
  • Experience in the generation and bioinformatics analysis of complex genomics and transcriptomics datasets is desirable
  • An awareness of analytical chemistry techniques would be an advantage

Our Site:

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety, technical support of our product range and seeds research.

Biologicals Research:

Biological based technologies are expected to deliver a significant contribution to the future of agriculture alongside conventional technologies. Microbials and biomolecules will play a pivotal role in the development of these novel biological products for growers.

Our new team, which is made up from talented scientists from both industry and academia, is growing and we have a new position within our Synthetic Biology team. The role will focus on the development and application of modern biotechnology processes for the characterization and engineering of microbes for the production of these next generation crop protection products.
