Job description

Role purpose:  

As a Principal Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for developing innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions that comply with regulations and meet customer needs. You will leverage material knowledge and manufacturing technologies to translate design briefs, generate new concepts, and ensure adherence to legal requirements for product transport and safety. 

Accountabilities: 

  • Ensuring all operations under direct control comply with Syngenta Health, Safety & Environment policies and conform to Syngenta legal standards. 
  • Fostering external collaboration to build and apply advanced science and technology to solve challenging business targets and deliver the best product experience for customers. 
  • Efficiently managing personal workload while coordinating with team members to optimize resource utilization and maintaining regular communication with stakeholders to ensure alignment on project timelines. 
  • Applying operational excellence tools to identify inefficiencies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to process improvements. 
  • Coordinating specific project components, collaborating with team members to ensure timely completion and monitoring progress against defined milestones, identifying potential issues, and proposing solutions. 
  • Independently defining packaging qualification protocols, executing qualification studies, recommending acceptance criteria and training others on qualification procedures. 
  • Developing and implementing local packaging quality control procedures, including fill & pack knowledge application, and maintaining elements for packaging in master data management systems. 
  • Investigating quality issues, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining product compliance. 
  • Supporting quality audits.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent professional qualification and/or relevant experience  
  • Understanding of packaging development processes and knowledge relevant to the role across the industry with ideally experience of 3-5 years (successfully led pack development projects) 
  • English: C1 Level 
  • German: beneficial 
  • Strong and reliable level of knowledge & skills in cross-functional stakeholder management at the regional level
