The Syngenta Patent team have a great opportunity for a Patent Paralegal to join the Crop Protection business.  Having gained some work experience following formal education this is a chance to move your career forward in global organisation working on projects that have an impact around the world of agriculture. 

Taking pride in delivering a world class service, you will work on full cycle and global projects and have the satisfaction of seeing the result of your work gaining patents. 

Working within an experienced team you will: 

  • Provide a consistent global end to end Patent formality support service to Patent Attorneys for capturing, protecting and managing innovation processes. 

  • Become an expert and/or provide specialist services in specified areas of patent Paralegal duties. 

  • Ensure delivery of a consistent, efficient and timely service to business partners. 

  • Be the responsible Patent Paralegal for a portfolio with an allocated attorney(s) and perform all necessary formality actions to ensure a timely delivery. 

  • Ensure delivery of a consistent, efficient and timely service to Business partners. 

  • Provide an effective Patent formality service including:  

    • Patent filing and prosecution - handle all aspects of filings, including: priorities, foreign filings, national phase entries, validations, oppositions and appeals 
      • Respond to and administer formalities including forms, fees, certified copies, filing receipts, examination requests, assignments, oaths and declarations, power of attorney etc. where required   
    • Provide reports and query services, including cost estimations, in order to support attorneys & business partners 
  • Work to agreed service levels and input into service level development.  

  • Undertake special projects where required. 

  • Where required, act as a ‘champion’ for specific aspects of patent ways of working, processes and services (i.e. expert, account manager with 3rd party service providers, provide views on ways of working to support continuous improvement/enhancements).   

  • Where required be a specialist provider for allocated processes. 


Qualifications

  • Qualified Patent Paralegal or equivalent, minimum 3 years practical experience. 

  • Computer literate, with the knowledge of using a variety of computer-based patent administration systems to deliver an effective service. 

  • Knowledge and experience of the patenting process including the 3 major systems – US, EP and PCT. 

  • Good planning, communication and organising skills (written and verbal) with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and complete them under time constraints. 

  • Flexible and open to change, ability to process, identify issues, propose solutions and implement action plans proactively and quickly. Good analysis and critical thinking. 

  • Understanding of developing administrative processes and ability to identify and implement improvements.  

  • Ability to maintain confidential information in an appropriate, professional manner. 

  • Be a proactive contributor to business partners with the focus on quality work along with collaboration, teamwork, accountability and adaptability.
