Role purpose

  • To lead all Logistics activities in Japan in support of the Japanese CP and SPS business.
  • To develop and coach team members in order to become a highly respected team of professionals, and potentially future leaders.
  • To be a lead player in the Japan P&S team, and a key go-to person for P&S.
  • To own the KPIs for Logistics Cost (Cost / KG ) for both Primary & Secondary Distribution, OTIF, No. of safety incidents, and the ones related to Logistics efficiency (e.g. Load utilization)
  • To be proactive in continuously seeking opportunities to optimise process efficiencies and resources.
  • To work seamlessly with other key areas of P&S and Finance and the Commercial teams, to contribute to business growth.
  • To manage the partnership / relationship with LSPs and be accountable for their overall performance.

     

Accountabilities

  • Create and execute the strategy to sustain logistics even under in-coming challenging environment in country, in order to ensure supporting business growth. Be proactive to foresee the risks / challenges and propose and prepare mitigation against them.  
  • Establish win-win partnership with LSPs externally and with all internal stakeholders such as other P&S functions, commercial and finance to deliver logistics objectives aligned with business growth, with the lens of end to end operational chains.
  • Explore any of cost saving opportunities in logistics, offsetting overall cost trend, while balancing with level of service. Continuous improvement
  • Build networks externally to bring future growth opportunity into the organization, as well as building networks and knowlegds within Syngenta to ensure the smooth running of the business.
  • Ensure all team members have a development plan and that there is a robust succession plan in place for all key roles.
  • Ensure all related operations for logistics including physical inventory management well in place, to run the business with quality.
  • Lead on-going continuous improvement in the area of logistics operations.
  • Ensure HSE and compliance in all operations.
  • Ensure KPIs are in line with the targets set and achieved.

Qualifications

Critical knowledge

  • University Degree in relevant subject area
  • Knowledge of logistics market in Japan
  • International/Domestic regulations for distribution and warehousing. Regulation on Dangerous & Toxic materials.
  • Knowledge of ERP .
  • Knowledge of End to end supply chain fundamentals.
  • General finance knowledge

Critical experience

  • Proven track record in managing supply chain operations at local level (min. 5 years’ experience)
  • Successful experience in leadership and people management as well as understanding of the international business environment
  • Project management

Critical capabilities

  • Mentoring, coaching and team building
  • Excellent stakeholder management
  • Excellent influencing skills
  • Good command of English language and fluency in Japanese

Critical leadership capabilities

  • Passion for Customers, Long View.
  • Ability to act as a role model for winning culture/behaviors and lead change projects within Syngenta
  • Strong interest in contributing to promotion of Japan agriculture.

Critical success factors & key challenges

Next 12 months:

  • Deliver Joint delivery project to realize consolidated logistics with other companies.
  • SAP HANA implication

Additional Information

  • Travel within Japan is required on a somewhat regular basis for visiting warehouses, etc.
  • Limited overseas travel expected.
  • 2days / week of WFH (work from home) is allowed.
