In our quest to harness the potential of plants to feed the world, we seek a LIMS implementation engineer to help us implement a Lab Information Management System that serves as the foundation for our lab digitalization.

As a LIMS implementation engineer, you will be responsible for the technical implementation, configuration, and customization of the LIMS for our biotech/trait research operations in our Seeds Research Lab in Beijing. You will work closely with the global LIMS implementation lead, the LIMS vendor (LabVantage), the IT team, and the laboratory staff to ensure that the LIMS meets the technical requirements and the business objectives.  This role will evolve from an initial focus on assisting the US-based Seeds Research lab implement their LIMS to serving as the leading on-site LIMS expert for SBC. 

Accountabilities

  • Configure and customize the LIMS according to the requirements and specifications, using the vendor and Syngenta-provided tools and APIs.
  • Develop and integrate custom modules, scripts, and reports as needed to extend the functionality of the LIMS.
  • Collaborate with the business analyst and the stakeholders to understand the functional and non-functional requirements of the LIMS.
  • Implement globally aligned LIMS standards between US and China sites with unique configurations for differences in site-based processes as needed.
  • Understand and implement the technical architecture and infrastructure of the LIMS, including the hardware, software, network, and security components.
  • Participate in the testing of the LIMS as needed, including unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, and performance testing.
  • Support the deployment and rollout of the LIMS, including data migration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and maintain the LIMS performance, availability, and security, and apply patches and upgrades as needed.
  • Provide technical support and training to the LIMS users and administrators, and resolve any issues and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Document and maintain the LIMS architecture, configuration, customizations, test cases, user manuals, and best practices.
  • Communicate and report the progress, issues, and risks of the LIMS project to the relevant stakeholders and management.

Qualifications

PLEASE NOTE:  candidates must be in the United States and not require sponsorship.  

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with experience working in biotech; or a degree in a biotech-related field with experience working as a developer or implementing a commercial off-the-shelf LIMS product
  • Professional Experience and Technical Proficiency:
    • At least 3 years of experience as a LIMS implementation engineer or a similar role in IT projects, preferably in the biotechnology or life sciences domain
    • Experience collecting requirements from end-users and iteratively designing applications/LIMS implementations
    • Proven track record of delivering high-quality technical solutions for complex IT systems, preferably LIMS or other laboratory applications
    • Strong knowledge of the LIMS architecture, infrastructure, and security standards and best practices
    • Proficient in using various tools and technologies for LIMS configuration, customization, integration, and testing, such as SQL, Java, JavaScript, REST
    • Experience in working with LIMS vendors and IT teams, and managing the expectations and relationships with multiple stakeholders
    • Familiarity with the agile development methodology and project management tools
