In Action

Within the department of Technology Innovations at the young plant production site in De Lier we are looking for students working on research projects to improve the young plant production to be ready for the future. You will work in an enthusiastic team of specialists in applied Research and Phytopathology.

The Challenge

In horticulture disease management represent one of the biggest challenges. Fungal diseases (e.g. botrytis) can have a considerable impact on production and cause heavy losses. The application of chemical and biological products is one of the most effective methods to control their spread. However, a too frequent application of the same active ingredient can cause the development of resistance. In the future, less and less active ingredients will be available on the market to control these diseases, making resistance management more difficult and more important. During your internship at Syngenta Flowers you will develop a protocol to determine fungal resistance to several fungicides (chemical and biological) in vitro and in vivo.

Qualifications

Your Profile

You are close to finalize your Master’s degree in agriculture/horticulture. You like to run applied research in a laboratory and greenhouse environment with immediate impact on production.
