Manage, coordinate and lead all post-approval requirements including insect resistance management (IRM), weed resistance management (WRM), and stewardship projects and activities in support of Syngenta’s insect-resistant and herbicide resistant traited products in ID. Understand and implement strategies and studies to enable Syngenta to meet and influence regulatory and stewardship requirements for GM insect and herbicide traits registrations,  stewardship and post approval conditions of registration working with a cross-functional team.

Accountabilities:

  • Drive the development of ID post approval requirements including IRM and WRM strategies to meet regulatory, durability and stewardship requirements while ensuring a fit with crop business strategies to include integrated crop strategies.
  • Coordinate with ID Regulatory Affairs to establish best practices for meeting commercial trait registration conditions, post-approval requirements and stewardship concerning IRM/WRM including, advocacy with regulatory agencies, development of required biology data, modelling considerations, development of a rapid response plan to reports of suspected insect and weed resistance, and a mitigation plan to verified cases of insect and weed resistance to Syngenta’s traits to include chemistry tactics.
  • Coordinate and provide support on the post approval and stewardship training requirements and advocacy actives relative to the GM traits portfolio aligned to business strategies.
  • Coordinate and provide support in the planning and execution of internal and external post-approval requirement studies and estimation of resource needed to develop all required biology data in support of ID traits IRM/WRM, as part of the annual planning cycle. Drive the development,interpretation and communication of the required data, and lead any follow up activities necessary in response to the data collected. Stakeholders informed of resource needs and of any unexpected data or concerning trends.
  • Interact with resistance  management colleagues across in ID to share IRM/WRM technical strategies, opinions and guidance as required on a consultative basis.
  • Analyze and respond to the current competitive IRM/WRM environment in  ID to include forecasting future directions/trends for post-approval plans and regulatory requirements. Keep  stakeholders updated on key developments and trends in  ID.
  • In alignment with Syngenta’s regional post approval requirements (IRM and WRM) strategies, represent Syngenta on country cross-industry bodies  (e.g CropLife ID, etc).
  • Interact with university scientists, customer groups, governmental scientists and regulatory agencies to influence post-approval regulations, promote good stewardship practices, and increase awareness of the IRM/WRM benefits from Syngenta’s trait and chemistry offerings, either independently or in collaboration with other companies

Qualifications

Essentials Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Entomology or closely related field is required. Master of Science/PhD is a plus factor.
  • An in-depth knowledge of insect control traits and insecticide and their use.
  • Background and understanding of key aspects of insecticidal trait development, commercialization, regulation and stewardship.
  • Minimum of 2 years of substantial experience in insect and herbicide trait biology including a deep understanding of assay development, experimental design, and interactions with regulatory and other functional groups.
  • Working understanding/competence of processes and systems required for data capture, analysis and presentation.
  • Membership on teams demonstrating significant contributions and leadership.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in the field with excellent public speaking effectiveness.
