As part of our activities in Frankfurt and in the context of a successful succession planning, Syngenta is looking for a:

Head Business Development & Sustainable Farming (m/f/d) DACH (Crop Protection)

Role purpose:

As a core member of the Leadership Team, the Head Business Development & Sustainable Farming DACH leads the Business Unit (BU)-Business Development- & Sustainable Farming Team. This redesigned role is key to shape and drive the implementation of BU DACH’s strategy in Digital Ag, Sustainable Farming and Regenerative Agriculture initiatives plus new business areas. The Business Development Head also leads the implementation of the BU’s commercial excellence roadmap and 5-year plan delivery in cooperation with DACH Marketing and Sales functions. The role is also key to support the BU Head in designing & shaping the strategic agenda, BU leadership team meetings and other relevant meetings. 

Responsibilities/main tasks:

  • Leads the BU Business Development & Sustainable Farming Team as member of the BU Leadership Team
  • Leads the BUs Digital Services & Digital Ag team and is accountable for the development and implementation of related business model
  • Oversees the Sustainable Farming agenda for DACH, particularly for developing sustainable farming services in collaboration with the Digital Services/Digital Ag team, including Regenerative Ag initiatives as integral part of the business unit’s activities
  • Leads the BUs activities for continuous improvement of commercial processes (incl. Go-to-market reviews, sales steering and commercial analytics) 
  • Supports BU Head in design & shaping the strategic agenda, BU leadership team meetings and other relevant meetings in DACH
  • Organizes and drives BU’s 5-year Plan delivery in cooperation with DACH Marketing and Sales functions
  • Acts as ambassador of DACH business requirements across regional and global functional Centers of Expertise (Digital Ag/Digital services, IT, Commercial Excellence etc.)
  • Takes the lead on strategic projects and initiatives
  • Ensures systematic best practice sharing within BU DACH and with other BUs/Regions

Qualifications

Knowledge and experience expected:

  • 8 years successful business experience in commercial roles (Marketing, Sales and/or Strategy)
  • University degree e.g. in business management/economics, finance, IT/digital business and/or Agronomy
  • Leadership roles in commercial function
  • Experience in design & operation of digital service models (e.g. SaaS), ideally in the Ag market
  • +8 years of strong track record of running projects or program management
  • +8 years of leadership experience in working in an international matrix organization
  • Strong sense for customer needs & customer-centric behavior and mindset
  • Proven team leadership skills
  • Setting ambitious strategic goals
  • Communicating with impact
  • Developing people, organization and self
  • Collaborating across boundaries
  • Building a culture of innovation
  • Understanding market dynamics and competitive environment
  • Full proficiency in English and German, additional languages (e.g. French) desirable
