We are currently seeking a Greenhouse Plant Biologist for the Greenhouse Team. The full-time position is in the Beijing Innovation Center, Beijing, China. Syngenta Biotechnology China (SBC), is one of company’s global Research and Development sites, mainly focusing on biotech research and product development for major crops. Located in Zhongguancun Life Science Park in Beijing, SBC officially started operations in 2008, and is now the home base for 200 highly qualified professionals. Working with top level scientists globally, we collaborate to deliver innovative solutions to farmers across the world. As a Greenhouse Plant Biologist, you will play a key role in initiating and delivering research projects in the greenhouse. 

You will help meet the world’s most pressing needs by:

  • proactively engaging in cross-functional interaction and project management to ensure critical objectives and milestones are timely delivered.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct Greenhouse (GH) activities to deliver high quality plant materials and phenotyping data packages
  • Independently develop and implement fit-for-purpose greenhouse assays to evaluate trait efficacy for different projects
  • Propose new ideas, initiate, and manage projects to address business needs 
  • Innovatively develop and optimize processes of plant cultivation and trait phenotyping to ensure the timely delivery of new genome editing projects
  • Monitor and improve GH environmental performance; Identify facility improvement and GH upgrade opportunities based on plant-environment interaction and novel GH technologies
  • Work cross-functionally (GH and molecular analysis) to ensure the pipeline objectives are met
     

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in plant physiology, plant genetic and development, crop breeding, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in agricultural industry 
  • Demonstrated Experienced in plant cultivation, phenotyping, and GH operation 
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural biotechnology, including genetic modification, genome editing, and molecular research
  • Bilingual: Mandarin and English, proficient in oral and written English communication

Preferred Requirements

  • Passion for working with plants in GH
  • Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
  • Experience in project management 
  • Occasional evening teleconference for global communication within company
  • Occasional weekend or holiday duties to support research operation
